seen these problems before on F111s, not ours , but US ones, poor maintenance procedures they get these problems, jack them up, do an extension and retraction , sign it off and next thing you hear is an IFE (in flight emergency). Saw it 3 times in Mt Home in 81, felt very sorry for the aircrews as they bear the brunt of poor maintenance .... one of them came on belly down with the front wheel extended with the wheel sideways, the rears were up, the base was locked down due to fine slivers of aluminium in the air due to explosion Our airframies will do a FULL days extensions and retractions before they sign it off plus if you ever saw the quality of the soldering for the electrical system you would never hop into their aircraft, one of their FTUs had so much solder in it that it seems they just melted the solder and threw it in the box hoping to hit the right spot But then you can't expect HRHS standard soldering from monkeys (and THEY were the ones to instigate that level of soldering !!! .... from NASA) Might give the boys a call at Amberley and see if I'm allowed back on to have a look
Sounds like the Raptors didn't fly solely due to the lack of a demo-qualified pilot - there aren't enough around yet B2 was invited (by Pacific branch of USAF) but couldn't be spared B1 pics pls Moretti
only saw a static in Florida in 81, they were very new then and no pics allowed , looked smaller than I expected
I can google really well since I subscribed to the F1 section they're the champions of waffle over there

did you recognise the C5 ? and the A6 Intruder ? The photos of the 747s were when it was first introduced to the airlines and was the first one I had seen back in 78
you would have loved it, all the electronics on-board was very impressive for the day, I had seen jezebel on P3 orions at the time which people thought was high tech but the gear on the air command ships were very impressive , lots of blinking lights and TV screens The number of guards around the planes was huge !! I tried to get a photo of the inside from the outside and was quickly shown the gate
here's some proof the USAF is a girls air force Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
yep and they were noiser and water injected for take-off from memory , the water gave them more power I think, not an engine guy I did get to run the F111 engines up to zone 1 in the carports one day just before I got discharged You're NOT allowed to go to 100% let alone zone 1 the ATC got most upset and sent the wagon down to ask questions Got my mate Bob in trouble as he was letting me run the engines as a favour for a computer AFCS run test, I've always had trouble with authority But I still remember how it was nice to have control of 25,000lbs of thrust for a few minutes, the flames and power rings out the back are always impressive
Yep I understand the Yanks have an Airforce one(Presidential plane) and it's sister Airforce 2(Command 747) is in the air at all times! Both aircraft are identical in terms of command/control equipment I'm told. Whatever plane the President is on becomes Airforce one.....even if it's not the regular Airforce One jet. Better be careful.........soon the M.I.B might be paying me a visit....... P
There are two VC-25s (the "Air Force One" version of a 747-200), they both live on the ground (at Andrews AFB) until needed, but I think (?) they both go on every trip in case one goes u/s. Air Force Two is the callsign for a military aircraft carrying the Vice President of the US, but there's a "mini-Air Force One" type plane which IIRC is a military version of a 757 whose main job is to be AF2 when needed.
They end up here. Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
