    Hi,

my car (1990 348ts) has a black stripe at the bottom of the car which has become pitted from bugs, etc...i want to repaint inside the front "grill" area and the front bumper in the same black. does anyone know if i need something special? am i overcooking this and can just use regular flat black from a spray can? Is it an underbody type?

the job doesn't seem daunting, but i want it to match the rest of the car...

    thanks in advance...

    Nice first post, welcome. :D:D

If you are worried about it, why not take to an expert and have them paint it properly. They will match the black paint perfectly, if they are any good. :D:D

    Good luck mate. :):)

Not too big of a job. I found some low-gloss black in an aerosol can that's a reasonably good match. It's an area that gets a lot of abuse and you can save yourself a bit of cash if you can repair/repaint it yourself.

I like the later car's look with body color all the way down but the black is easier to take care of.

Just remember that the hardest part is the innocuous sounding three little words on the paint can, "prepare the surface" that makes all the difference how it looks when you're done. ;)

Going to body color really updates the look of the car. The black dates it as an early model. If that's ok with you, then spray it. Me, I'd paint it in body color along with the engine cover. ;)

I used to have the whole of my 348 front bumper painted in a black silk finish, just from a can. Meant i could repair and repaint at will to keep looking OK, something that needed doing with boring regularity! I did also have another in body colour for best, but actually preferred this especially with the black challenge rims.

SEM makes a paint you mix with lacquer thinner and spray with a gun. It's called "Trim Black". Pretty close to OEM
