He knows he's one of the fastest drivers on the grid, even in the company of 4 other WDC's. I love Mclaren but I'm glad he got this shout out to them (whether or not intended). His contract is up in 2012 and Webber is doing one year at a time. Sure McLaren is home, but I can't see him staying if they don't get their act together. The only thing I think we can all be fairly sure of is that he won't ever drive for Ferrari (but he's got 10+ years left, so never say never).

"I want to be one of the most successful F1 drivers of this generation so I do want to win more world championships and I think you have to continue winning and prove yourself time after time for people to really know that you are the best.
"I can't say right now that people can say he was clearly the best in the world. I have only been here for four years so I have got a lot more to do."

Comments like this from Hamilton just make me want to see the guy getting trashed. He's so wrapped up in what "other" people think of him.

You would never hear guys like Häkkinen, Kubica, Stewart, Schumacher, Räikkönen, Clark or Senna saying such egotistical crap. True racers only care about racing and winning.

Hamilton seems to see his F1 career as a popularity contest.

I'm starting to wonder if Lewis Hamilton and Kanye West were separated at birth ! ;)

    True dat.
Those guys could give a S what others say about them.
    Its all about me.

Just admit it if he said the opposite you'd still hate him.
    Reasons are easy to find.

I don't get the issue here. Should he say "I think I'm so fortunate to have won a WDC that I can race the rest of my career, never win again and be completely satisfied"?

I'm certain he didn't just make the statement...it seemed like it was the answer to a question from the reporter. I'm certain if Alonso was asked the same question he would answer similarly. It's just their personalities.

Also, I'm QUITE certain that Ayrton was very clear about his intentions to win every race he competed in. He was NOT the warm and fuzzy guy that people here seem to believe he was.

That's right son. So stfu and get out there and do it. On the track I mean, not with your mouth. My theory is he just needs more time to learn how to assist in car development. He has driving skill, he just needs more maturity. Interviews like this prove that.

Thing is, i can see that Lewis is extremely competitive and his desire to be successful is really high. Well of course he is. Thats what made him reach F1 in the first place.

However, i think he should keep those goals to himself. He should be more low profile and and give basic decent interviews like MS does. He should learn how to talk and when to talk. Like Mika. Talk less, listen more.

When Lewis comes up with this sorta statement, it's giving the critics lots of opportunities to actually trash him. Bit silly on his side, IMO.

Here's a hint... the issue here has nothing to do with Hamilton ;)

...we'd be arguing with Scuderia about whether 7 titles is actually the same as 6, because it's an odd number and is equal to an even number :p

on a side note, we need to devise some word that refers to people who've been smacked down and go around replying to posts they perceive to be against people they dislike, and lend short phrases of support.

Something catchy that we can have a good laugh about, other than just laughing at the posts themselves.

I can well understand Lewis Hamilton. He will start the 2011 season on the back foot again.

He feels that he has what it takes to be world champion, but his team doesn't always provide him with a car good enough for it. It's not the first time that he has to start the season with a car still 'unsorted' and that progress rely on forthcoming upgrades.

McLaren results as constructor have been in decline since Newey's departure, according to the stats, and Hamilton doesn't want to be like Raikonen, someone who stays at McLaren for too long and lose championship because of it.

A switch to another team could be the solution for him.

Say what ? Well what's it about then Mikey ! Please clue us in with your words of wisdom, being that you have this terrible burden of knowing everything.

Hamboi says this stuff Mikey, I'm not making it up. The guy talks like he's won 2 Championships, maybe he ought to say that winning just the ONE didn't satisfy him, no ? He's the most arragant little baby we've ever seen in F1, just sayin,

I have to agree with this, either say that or say nothing at all, it does nothing to help anything. This is what I don't get about Hamilton, he is such a super talented individual but he doesn't have the right mental state to back it up, we've seen that countless times.

Why should he be humble, what's wrong with fighting talk anyway. I haven't met him, but AFAIK from reports that I have read, when folk that have met him, report that he is a really nice guy.

I don't subscribe to everything I read about him, if folk want to assume he is a arrogant bast'd then its fine by me, I'd just like to see them say it to his face.

Humble doesn't win on the race track, ask Massa.

    +1 great point

And while we're on the subject of laughing I'm still recovering over your post about how Hamilton would beat Alonso by about as much as he beat Button by...

I wouldn't have a problem with the comments but he says "one or two titles isn't enough/satisfactory." I think he should worry about title number two before focusing on becoming legend status.

It's plain to see that if Alonso said these comments we would have the anti-Alonso crowd complaining about his arrogance. At least he has won 2 WDCs! :)

True, but I am sure every driver has these aspirations and most keep it to themselves.

Don't take everything they say so literally, think boxing ring chat.

One thing for is for sure, create a thread put Hamilton in the title and watch the hits and posts...its laughable to me the attention he gets.
