I'm looking for a 22MM wheel lug socket either impact or regular, 1/2" drive with the plastic insert as to not mar my lug nuts. No luck finding it yet. Any help would be appreciated.

That's a bit expensive. If you have new lug bolts, it's a good idea. However, if your current bolts are good-to-fair, then, since the torque is only 72-78 ft-lbs., you will not mess up those with a conventional, clean, deep-socket. I do recommend a deep socket to prevent scratching the wheel. I also recommend a torque wrench...and a SINCERE reminder of the relatively low torque value to any shop or individual who works on the car.
    Enjoy the new 308.

I was told that the impact sockets are softer than the harden chrome variety. So try that next time. I've not had any marks on mine lug bolts.

Thanks again. I will buy a 1/2" deep impact 22mm socket.

The problem with those is that they have plastic on the outside of the socket - good for protecting the wheel, but not on the driving face of the socket, so the chrome will eventually get scratched. Paint is easy to fix, chrome isn't...

Try contacting your local Snap-On dealer for these aluminum sockets. My dealer only had the full set so that's what I bought (I can't remember what the individual P/N was for just the single socket). The size that will fit as well is 7/8" (almost spot on to 22mm):

I only know of two other manufacturers who have aluminum/steel sockets and that's OZAT (of Israel) and Beta.

Here's my "socket dip": a Ziploc freezer bag. Works great to protect the lug and rim.

Just place the bag over the socket, then wiggle the socket onto the lug, and you're good to go!

Works for ratchets as well as impact wrenches.

Thanks for that. I presume that freezer bag material is a bit thicker and that's why it works.

Ziplock is much less expensive than the bags with the Prancing Horse on them...same functionality too! However, Ziplock doesn't come in metric, so you will have to be good at estimating the conversion factors. FYI, 1QT works well with 22mm!!!:D

...and I've been using the gallon bags this whole time!

Do you think I need to replace my timing belts now? I'm sure I messed something up.

Does anyone else wonder why a metric socket has a SAE sized drive??? Meaning...Why wouldn't a 22mm socket have say a 13mm drive instead of a 1/2" drive???

Same reason wheel and tire inner diameters, except TRX, are measure in inches. We have always done it that way. On the tires, we even mix up inner diameter in inches and width and height in mm.

Incidentally, these are Ferraris, so I bought a Hill Engineering socket for my techs and one for me. Worth it to me.

I do not know if they are still available, but I got the full set of aluminum sockets with the plasic guards from Griot's. They have served me well on many cars. Don't remember the price as I have had them for 5 years or longer, but it wasn't outrageous given how much I have used them.

Last time I looked theirs only went to 21mm also.

    But I guess maybe I was wrong...http://www.griotsgarage.com/product/tools/specialty+tools/protective+socket+set.do?search=basic&keyword=wheel+socket&sortby=newArrivals&page=1
