And that is.... Car forums (model specific) seem to be the WORST place to try to sell your car... Your car is worth much more off of the forums. It appears to me, all the car forums just beat up every (not really every, but most) car for sale. This is of course, just my opinion Not just talking about Fchat, I noticed it on many car forums
I agree. I'll be selling my Zo6 in the next month or so and I'd never think about putting on corvetteforum. Most people there already have a similar car, and they feed on beating people up in classifieds. People post in sales threads with no intention to buy, just hammer on some aspect of the car or price. A few years back I built a car with a fully polished engine (looked like the whole thing was dipped in chrome), added twin turbos, etc and it was THE car everyone wanted on the site. When I decided to sell it for regular market value and basically giving the mods away for no equity....because I wanted an enthusiast have it, I had not a single REAL buyer in two months! I then put it in the normal channels and it sold the next week. I'd bet only 1/30th of cars put up for sale are bought by a member of the forum.
Hey, your car looks great! Isn't that the one that was rebuilt from a total and had the speedo rolled back? I remember seeing it go thru several auctions a few years ago. It's one of the best color change jobs I've ever seen! Yada, yada, yada.....
Totally agree. When I was trying to sell my F355 GTB I first posted it for sale on Ferrarichat and got a bunch of people telling me the guides are going to go bad, headers are in for replacement, the major needs to be done every 3 years, blah blah blah and either not even make an offer or throw a low ball offer out. I posted it on ebay and it sold offline in two weeks for full asking price. I'm still in touch with the owner who has never heard of ferrarichat and he is enjoying the car
Yep... all the sanding/polishing is done by me. Nobody works on my car in any way. I've got a million pics of all the car projects over the years... here's a few. I agree and will go you one better. If you own and enjoy a car avoid the model specific unless you have an actual issue or pressing question or you will be too freaked out to enjoy your car. The threads will make you hear ghosts, noises etc that don't exist.
Lol- thanks! I wonder if the guy that called GM wrench turners "monkeys" can even change his own oil. Oh well..
That's ridiculous. Although I must point out that the 348 is the worst Ferrari ever made and the gearbox explodes every time you put it in first. Hundreds of people die every month from this.
I have it on good authority that the embarrassment of the 348 was contributory in Enzo's death. Explosions from my 348 have injured 3 bystanders!
I concur. The buyers from the last couple of sports cars I sold (Z06 & M3) all came from Autotrader.com. They appeared sometimes months after the original ad was posted and came prepared to buy (money or financing in hand.) Most of the people who contacted me from the car forums either wanted to do some sort of trade + cash, gave me a lowball offer without ever coming to see the car, or sent me some junk like "Oh, I hope you will have this for sale in 6 months when I have the cash." I always wanted to reply, "Wish you had the cash now instead of in 6 months." The best one yet was a guy from the M3 forum who sent me an email that said, "What's your lowest price?" I replied back, "My asking price is posted right in the ad. How much are you willing to pay? " We went back and forth with the same question/answer 2x until he finally gave up. I think this is just standard fare for selling older, used sports cars. No one really NEEDS the car, they just WANT the car and they want it at the lowest price possible.
I own a motorcycle shop, and had the same experience when we sponsored a local motorcycle forum and listed bikes for sale. We only use our website and craigslist now.
I sold my last Ferrari on F-chat in less than 2 weeks. The key is you have to want to SELL your car. I wanted more for my car but I was realistic as to what the market was willing to pay, and got about fair market value for it at the time.
This is just a guess, but it appears that many of the "experts" on car and motorcycle forums are wannabes who learned everything they know from car and motorcycle forums. But I could be wrong. Dale
