My Mondial t side strakes/ air vents on the drivers side the very tip on two of the fins have hairline splits in them. Does anyone know if someone has evr made a mould and made a replica vent? I have seen these priced at enormous amounts ie $2500 down to $1200 which seems a little steep for what is no doubt plastic or aluminium. If someone wanted to manufacture left and right side ones I would be happy to buy them for a sensible price. I am sure there are others who would like some spares as they appear to be a common replacement item.

For your mentioned small repairs dental materials work well. My body guy did a beautiful repair job. For full replacement your suggestion seems well worth investigation. Just as a non-specialist, laser scanning and a cheap aluminum mould for injection of a plastic replica should be possible. You need an injection moulding group that knows what they are doing.

Has anyone ever removed the grill and filled in the screw holes? Would it modernize our cars, or make them look like they're missing parts?

I think that would leave the access panels for the rear window motors exposed, at least it would on a 3.2 Cabriolet. If that's the end result, nothing would be missing but it wouldn't be very finished looking.

Had one off in 2004 for 5 weeks while two of the five or so fin tips were refabricated. The hole left is awkward appearing and small but I am unimaginative and would never alter my cars appearance deliberately.

I will look into having mine repaired and see if I can find a possible plastics manufacturer who may replicate them as I am sure there are many who would like a spare.

I need a driver's side one as mine have been damaged by a dog jumping up against the side of the car would you believe.
Mine's right hand drive, so may be passenger side to you.
If you get anybody to fabricate them I'll buy one.

La Scuderia Rossa in Italy has them....but for $3,000, which is just way too much.

La scuderia has good stuff but they are purveyors to the stars. If you don't care about money you should buy from them. BUT they have the right stuff and SOMETIMES it's the only source. For example, they have mondial fog lights that are practically impossible to find as an example. SO use them parsimoniously.

    Kind regards

1989 T grills are metal. Acquired a pair and installed after some re-work: Hoping I'll never have to revisit replacement again.

My apologies clearly I lack perspicacity. The mondial t .. mine a 92.. seem to be a plastic piece that suffers from age and cracks at the forwardmost end of the fingers. I am seeking a local and will devote some time friday. Will keep you informed.

Sorry I will rotate the next ones.
So I removed the grills and found some plastic glue and re- attached the end of the finger and fashioned a lug that had broken off from hard plastic which I then glued into place. I cut this into shape with a scalpel set and glued it with a quality plastic glue. I glued the broken one with the crack and filled it with a tiny amount of filler, sanded it and then apinted it.

I had to adjust the size of the tongue so that it fitted correctly into the slots of the car. The strakes slot in and slide back to lock into place, It seems that they are stressed sometimes as the slotted end may not be long enough and it stretches the finger which causes the stress cracks.

You may have to revisit that again down the road as the body will tend to flex a bit on those tangs. But a lot less expesive than purchasing and painting a new pair.

I was going to attempt your solution also, and now, will take the pair that adorn my garage and consider their rework....now that I have replacements installed, time is of no issue.

thanks for the post ... it looks ok.

HI I used a brand called Selleys Plastic Glue. It is just like a supa glue but it has a primer stick which you apply first and then you use the glue. It bonds within 30 secs and is strong I was surprised how well it worked.

I tried a few glues after making two profiles and in the end I used a soldering iron to melt the two plastics together. Sounds crazy but it's holding. I will keep you posted after the summer .

How was the repair. BTW: How did you match the paint?

I want to still repair the damaged one hanging on my garage wall.

Still good, unfortunately the paint we have is either too orange or too dark so i mixed the two by wet spraying by aerosol. The colour is very close and as it is only on the repaired end not noticeable at all. Both the colours were very close to the corsa rosso just a smidge off but when done together are almost perfect. I know there are some paint shops that will mix and supply a colour in an aerosol can but time is against me as we work 6 days and sundays the paint places are closed. I went to a super cheap store, and tried to match with off the shelf cans and came very close.Colour was monza red.
