Taken a picture with a poor quality phone camera? Removed an electrical wire that is normally in the roof and is now dangling? Converted your car from stick to F1? The possibilities are endless.....
ding, ding, ding ! The paddles are now matched to the dull aluminum finish of the tranny tunnel. Mine were black, but very sticky. It was easy to take the paddles off (4 small bolts+ profiled washers). I started to remove the paint, but it would not come off with alcohol, paint thinner, nor would it come off with a bead blaster. The sand was bouncing off the rubber-like coating. The last step was attempted at my mechanic's in San Mateo, CA (Dino Motors). It was he who left them overnight with 3 coats of paint stripper. Krylon dull aluminum matches really well. I was gonna leave them bare aluminum, but aluminum does actually get surface rust on it. I am not sure what the prize should be, but I am always prepared to serve up lunch to a fellow mad car disease sufferer (Silicon Valley, or wherever my employer send me---looks like Dallas and Amsterdam are the next two trips)
LOL Don't make fun of my dongle ! Yes, the iphone flash is not all that it could be, and it was difficult to part with my BB in the first place. I am afraid that i am now a fan boy now, despite the occasionally crappy photos.
...and taken with a regular camera by the selling dealer ! Got it in November, and just now got the plates. It took forever to get it smogged in California. 99s are apparently difficult to pass, and my last two of the 10 sensors would not reset. It also does not help if the guy redoing your dash leather disconnects the battery after you drove it 400 miles. Drove it to work today, rain be damned. Image Unavailable, Please Login
Luke- Aluminum cannot rust, but it can corrode. Clear coat can prevent that, but so can paint. Incidentally, I did not even notice, because the paddles on 575Ms are aluminum, as are the horn buttons. Taz Terry Phillips Image Unavailable, Please Login
i thought rust and corrosion were both foreign words in New Mexico? The paddles got the coat of Krylon dull aluminum, so I will keep monitoring them....should be good. I am not sure which car I drove, but something exotic i tested recently had velvet on the back of the paddles. I guess that was not made for people who eat Cheetos while driving?
We all pretty much agree but it is kind of a matter of semantics. Rust is defined as oxidation and fire is rapid oxidation so actually a form of rusting. Left on it's own aluminum will form aluminum oxide on the surface and it isn't very pretty. Oh yea, love the look
Before I swap my 430 paddled to carbonio cf units, my factory aluminum paddles were also oxidizing. It was pretty unsightly but I found out that a little bit of car polish actually buffs those bits off.
Thanks for the feedback. I just could not bring myself to spending $800 on carbon fiber paddles. Some sort of a mental limit.
LOL - good one! I thought the red string was to attract cats. BTW, gorgeous use of paint application and you still kept the dark lettering on the paddles
