I believe the F458 has to smooth of a body design. Allthough Ferrari has designed it with aero and speed functionality-----it seems less than the 430/scud somehow. It is a beauty of a car but we all have to live with this design for at least 5 years-----------so I guess I better get used to it--------

Totally agree! the 308 is still the best looking V-8 Ferrari. Furthermore, I also think it's the best looking Ferrari ever...

To each his own. If the 308 would still sell, they would still be building it. Same for the Scud. If it was still the best design, Ferrari would not have built the 458. Guess what? the 458 kicks the Scud's ass. The Scud kills the 430. the 430 kills the CS, the CS kills the 360. The 360 kills the 355, etc. A lot of people think that the 246 Dino is the best looking Ferrari ever and some debate whether it's even a Ferrari.

I have to say that I think that the Italia is much more refined looking than the Scuderia. It's a more sophisticated design that is purpose built. Rather than cutting holes in the body to accommodate certain features, it was designed to make the car go faster...and it does.

Scuderia says something wicked about the size of *cough*, sadly I cannot say the same for the 458.

However they do look nice ;)

They ran out of time stealing Jim Glickenhaus' P4/5 design to use on the 458.
Perhaps stealing is too strong of a word, let us say the P4/5 design influenced the 458 a lot but how they mated it to a new rear end is where the disconnect starts.

Yep. Th 458 lacks consistency and cohesion in the design front to back. I keep walking front to back, back to front and it just doesn't come together. Just my opinion... I do believe a lot of it will get cleaned up in the light weight edition and the car after the 458 which will be a more minor change (if Ferrari follows their normal major, minor, major, minor pattern).

So they stole their own design? Both cars were designed by Pininfarina.

The Challenge Stradale looks the best.

    You must be joking...

Based on looks, I'd take the Scud any day. 458 looks really fugly!

    Hi PCJR,

If I explain better what I meant, you will certainly understand that I am actually not joking lol The scud would be my second option, I also love it. But they are completely different... What I mean by best looking ever is the impact in the automotive history in terms of design. The 308 caused much more impact in the 70s than the 430 or 458 in 2000s. It's the same case when comparing the F40 and Enzo. The Enzo is unquestionably a better car, but the F40 was the ultimate supercar in 1987 and set the rules for the whole world. Maybe no other Ferrari is going to match that... In summary, if I could pick only two Ferraris to own at the same time, probably I would pick the 458 (maybe a scud... ) and a nice carburated 308 GTS in red/tan. To me, driving is not only about going fast, but pleasure as well. The sound of the carburators, the heavy clutch, the ticling sound when shifting, no ABS, TC and other electronics, and the whole hand made interior with switches (and no touch screan or whatever) of the 308 make the driving a much more fun experience... I have motorcycles as well, and it is the same feeling. I tell you what: riding my Ducati monster with racing pipes puts a much bigger smile in my face than riding my 1198... I am almost 40. Maybe I am just getting old :)

Scud / 16M ... 16M is the best looking modern day car.

    It's the ultimate finishes on a 430 - IMO

458 Scud version will be a fair comparison.

For now if you compare the challenge 458's it kills the Scud.

It's like comparing Brooklyn Decker to Cindy Crawford. Two generations apart, both gorgeous.

You can say, "She's not my type", but given the opportunity we all would gravel on our hands and knees if we could have either one of them....

.....except me 'cuz my wife would cut my balls off. :)

I like the front end of the scud better - a big improvement over the std 430 - so I am hoping that the lightweight/scud version of the 458 will get an improved/ more aggressive front end.

    Two cars, two eras!

The Scud is the last of the mechanical beasts, F15-Eagle-Like-Design, a little nervous, hardcore racer, does not like novices and is extremely loud :D

The 458 is the beginning of a new Ferrari era where Futuristic-Design, perfection, long distance and comfort are also key words and major players ;)

We can not stop evolution. I love them both!

    Greetz,

The 430 is a very aggressive design, the scud and 16M go even further. The 458 is a smooth and elegant. Nothing wrong with either but I really like the 458. I see a 458 spider on the horizon for me.
