Please correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't that a two valve engine?

Seller writes: "Sorry, but it's an early QV, stamped 1980 (!) Please count the cylinder heads (?) before making conclusions."

Okay, I could be wrong; it happened once before. ;) But the intake plenum looks for all the world like a 2v, not QV plenum, and 1980 would put it squarely into the first year of 2v injected 308 production.

    Am I right?

I think it might have been an 83 QV which uses the same plenum as the 2V injected on a QV head

Its definitly a QV - there is a picture looking down one of the exhaust ports & you can see 2 valves....

Very interesting! I didn't know that the 83 models used the same intake plenum!

But then, I'm confused about his statement that it's "stamped 80."

Ok then it's probably a QV head with a 2v (80 to 82) injected plenum.

That's what I thought at first, too - unless it's true that some of them came with the old intake plenums.

It's missing the acorn cam cover nuts, he should just remove the cam cover and post of photo of what's in there.

4v head, 2v plenun, parts missing - this thing is a mess.

I'd also be curious to know how he determined it "turns over", unless he means it rolls off the pallet onto its side.

Wow, no way! Thanks Mike, I learn something new every day. I took one look and thought, "nope, not a QV"

I want it, wonder if I can talk my wife into the idea that we need to store a motor....

Jason, I could be wrong but maybe sometime in the past someone could have change the plenum. Also, If the motor is in good shape internally which it's hard to tell from the ad then the price might not be too bad, so good luck with the wife.

With all of the visible oily, carbon build-up on the exhaust valves, I'll wager to say that the valve guides and rings are likely toasted. And all the silicone crap on the valve covers just screams "hack"....Having just completed one QV engine overhaul and another almost done, internal parts and the associated machining operations are well...not cheap.

    camouflage.

If they took the time to strip down the engine and pull off the heads, yet do not provide detailed pics or information on what they found: I would run away.

Qv and 3.2 engines are among the most reliable of the Ferrari engines. You dont just pull one out and apart for the hell of it.
plus its been "sorta" put back together, perhaps for shipping, but perhpas to cover up the crap thats missing or bent.

    no thanks.

I would rather see detail shots of the parts on a bench, rather than a pile strapped down to a pallet waiting for a sucker.

If you do buy it, please let us know how it turns out.

I would beware, though. . . it's hard to tell from the photos whether it's just messy or if it might have suffered from neglect.

If you get it, would you do me the favor of mentioning that you saw it here? I think the seller is annoyed with me for thinking that it's not a QV engine. :)

That looks like it was stored outside for a long time, in or out of the car. Count on having to do everything, then count your blessings when you find something you won't.
To me it looks like a core, nothing more.

I recall reading an old road test on the '83 QV in Road & Track that said that you can't put 4v heads on the 2v motor because of the oil delivery passageways... Or something like that. When I saw it, I thought that it was a 2v motor... And a rough one at that.
