MB is the only other team running a similar angle from the gearbox, only MB has their 'box tucked up more to the center of the car for better center weight distribution.

Does anyone have a picture of the U-Joint's internals?
Must be something else to transfer that much torque through such angles and be so compact.

Granted that with the limited suspension travel the articulation is not as great as it might be but still...

So long as the the CV joint internals were designed with substantially wider spiders specific to this application I can't see why it wouldn't work well. Williams has been testing this 'box forever now so I would think they worked out that issue.

The Ferrari is disgustingly quick through the high speed turns in S2. Alonso pulled a 22.7 there. Ferrari should be the favs and not Red Bull if Alonso repeats this at the 3rd practice.

S3 seems to be the area which seperates really good mechanical and aero grip from the not so good. The MB has a loose tail in S3 as does the Williams for now while MB and Mclaren will do well in S1 and S2. We'll see where this goes. That S3 area is a real butt kicker.

Vettel a full second clear of hammy in third. Not much running by Ferrari this session.

Yeah, unless somebody is sandbaggin, it don't look good. More than half of the victories could go to Red Bull this year. Its early, but if the engineers don't react by the 5th or 6th race it could be lights out.

Their Achilles heel could be their reliability but if the bits stay together it will be a long year....I think mcls gave their all; don't think Ferrari gave their all but even if they nip mcls I think there is a massive gap to rb....the best got better me thinks....

    D-a-y-u-m!

Very disappointed in the red cars :(

Hopefully they'll get their act together later.

    But, "it's a long season." ;)

Unreal qualy session. Who could have fathomed Red Bull would not only take pole, but be faster than last year by half a second. Absolutely astonishing.

I believe Geir is the winner, but I want to rally up everyone's points to be sure.
