^ Cool article. Jim, you keep talking about getting more air to the engine (as the car is weaker on the straights), but I'm assuming the car is already running max air under regulations. Does the engine still have some room to breathe or is it maxed out? And if it is maxed, what are the options? Edit: And apologies if this is a tech Q for Facebook--I don't have a Facebook...
Because of the massive amount of Engineering we've done on suspension, gearbox, chassis, and aero the car could take a lot more HP. The Drivers have described it as like driving an underpowered F1/LMP car. With the air restriction we're running our engine is under stressed. The street version and GT3's we're racing against have over 100 HP more. It could easily run for 24 making a lot more if less restriction allowed it. Pretty relaxed pit stop, have to wonder how the boys will be moving in the heat of competition. Would never be confused with a NASCAR pit stop- not that that is a bad thing!
Jim, she looks just awesome in the Green Hell. She looks awesome period. As Absent stated: orgasmic to look at. The Ring and P4/5C are a pair from heaven. What a story and there is so much more to come ... Cheers, M
If they don't let you ditch the coffee straw, how about dimpling the inside of the restricted intake? You know like the way golf ball dimples work? That way it helps keep the laminar air flow attached to the wall's of the tube, and maybe you can get a little better flow? Or are you not allowed to touch the intake tube at all?
P 4/5 Competizione was a proud sponsor of our friend Liz's team that successfully rowed across The Atlantic Ocean. Image Unavailable, Please Login
How do I upload a video (2 GB ) of me driving on a Swedish country road. It´s no way like the Nürburgring but it´s 25 kilometers of pure yoy. And you may guess what car I drive. Staffan
Create an account at YouTube and upload it there. It's quite simple. Might add that you should start your own thread for that so as not to distract from or get lost within Jim's effort. >8^) ER
Jim, Sorry to keep rehashing the air intake restriction issue, but I was wondering why it is you have to run in the EXP class instead of GT2. If you registered to run as a GT2 car, would you not be able to use less restriction and be in a better position to challenge for the overall race win? All the best, Andrew.
We're not eligible as a GT2 Car because Ferrari P 4/5 by Pininfarina was a one off not a holmolagated Sports Car with at least 200 examples having built. The Ring has it's own rules and restrictions. The problem for us is that the GT3's have a lot more HP and can easily fly by us on the straights. We're faster in the turns but unless we're allowed a bit more air we'll be racing for fun not trophies. Best
OK, that makes sense. I take it that you've applied to the Ring's race organizers for permission to run with less restriction? All the best, Andrew.
We then if it's just for fuuun..... and no trophieeeeeeeees.....................uncork that sucker, run it at full pop, and finish 1st. But then again I don't think the boys running the French invitational would like that very much, and you might not get invited to their party. But it sure would be fun.
Well I have to admit I am not really familiar with the rules of the 24h race but it is not like you would gain an unfair advantage just making it "fair". So if they don't allow it, we could start a petition or something ... I am sure there would be quite a few people signing it . Anyone know how the other cars in the exp class peform, do they have the exact same air restictions (same topspeed)?
Are the GT2's also more restricted than the GT3's? If so, why? If not, why don't you have same restrictions as GT2, since you are basically a GT2 also?
Unfortunately a one off is a one off and never a GT2. If Jim can win the "basically a GT2" argument then he's reached Enzo levels of debating with race organisers Pete
