So is their full HD lineup available, if the home account is subscribed?

Right now, there's about 12 channels. It says "Time Warner HD" or something like that at the top of the screen. Seems to be their HD content.

I LOVE the iPad 2, because now I can pick up an original at a nice big discount.

I'm thinking about getting one this summer. I purposely didn't buy the first iPad because I know how Apple is with constantly making significant (sometimes) changes to future versions.

My big decision right now is what to replace my 20'' iMac with. I can't decide between a new iMac (once they upgrade them soon) or a new 13'' MBP.

If you are getting an iPad, I'd go with the iMac. I bought my MBP a few months before they came out with the iPad and I just wish I had known. I loved my old iMac, but needed a laptop for school, I could have gotten a very well spec'd iMac and iPad for what I paid for my MBP.

Is anyone using the Skyfire app to play flash on their iPad? How is it?

This is what I'm leaning towards. Even though I want a MBP for convenience, I still see the iMac as the more practical purchase. I wish the Mac Mini was more powerful though. I would love to get rid of my computer desk and save some extra room by hooking up a Mac Mini to my tv :)

I bought a 13" MBP a year or so ago and haven't looked back. My 20" iMac collects dust except when I need to do some detailed Photoshop work with the Wacom tablet. I haven't found my MBP lacking for power, and you can hook one up to a TV via HDMI.

Edit; since this is an iPad 2 thread ;-) I'll add the shipping delays seems to have subsided. I bought two this morning for family.

I'm about to order an i-Pad 2 and am wondering what configuration to get. I store a lot of Pics so the more memory the better but having an Macbook and an i-Phone 4 I don't know if the 3G option is worth it.
    Thoughts?

My 02c; You don't need 3G on the iPad. The iPhone 4 can be tethered to it if you get desperate, but really - How often are you outside of wifi coverage these days?

    Cheers,
    Ian

    +1

I ended up getting more memory but not 3G. Already have the iPhone and wireless is near ubiquitous out here.

Thanks. With the flexible rate plans having a 3G i-Pad gives the option without paying for service when not needed though. Sometimes when out of the country wi-fi isn't available. I'll have to look into the tethering aspect.

One other thing - How do you shoot your pix?

If RAW, you know your reasons and we're done.....

If jpg OTOH, I learnt a while back that the "quality" setting on most DLSR's (nominally "high", "medium" & "low") can be set to medium with no (zero, nada, none!) ill effects on subsequent printouts at 20" x 24"...... This reduces file sizes by ~50%, and obviously everything gets much quicker.

This was verified by studying prints from both with a loupe. [and at multiple iso settings.] Trust me!

    Cheers,
    Ian

I have what I think is the only camera in the Cannon G series that doesn't support raw files :(
As a matter of course I shoot as high as possible (camera setting not state of consciousness). No doubt overkill.

As noted, unless you *really* want to get into image editing in a *big* way, that's probably a good thing..... "One" can do enough damage to a well exposed jpg, without going raw. And raw is *huge*! > order of magnitude bigger than even "high" (or "fine") jpg's......

    :)

My point precisely! - Shoot at "medium" and you'll be fine - Even if you want huge prints. I don't care what 'puter you're using, halving the file sizes of, say, 200 images speeds everything up....... Being convinced of the above was a life changing experience for me :)

    Cheers,
    Ian

Thanks. I'll give it a try.
I'm still thinking that more memory is worth the extra price. I have until Tues to decide.

The old adage pretty much remains true; You can never have enough memory.

OTOH, the iPad isn't really a "standalone" device - It wants syncing regularly - Maybe to the cloud, maybe to another 'puter..... So, does it really need to be the "big" version?

I dunno the answer btw, just thinking aloud that maybe it doesn't need to be the "biggest & most $" version.......

    Cheers,
    Ian

    Heresy!
    ;)

Yes it can (should) function as an adjunct to a mothership computer but I know my usage habits and that's not the way i operate.

To give an example I have a 16GB iPad and I've probably got 10-12GBs free. I have virtually nothing but apps on it. All my music is on my iPhone since it's easier to listen to. My videos and photos are all streaming from the internet. It's just something to think about.

Thanks for all the good advice. I picked up a 32Gb 3G version yesterday. I was torn between 32 and 64 but decided that I really didn't need so much memory. The fact that they has the 32Gb machine in stock helped too.
I haven't activated a data plan since I need it only when on the road. If AT&T didn't offer the no commitment plan I would have gone non-3G.
Thanks again. Its a great machine and a cool toy.
