Before I bite the bullet and purchase a floor jack, I was wondering if anyone has any other suggestions. I need a low profile jack for the ease of fitting under lowered vehicles. After some research and suggestions, most have pointed me to the Omega.

    http://www2.northerntool.com/auto-repair/jacks/item-144795.htm

I'm a little hesitant to purchase the Omega though. I have read some reviews here and there, and also know someone who personally owns one stating that throughout time, the jack begins to lose pressure. It seems like a hit or miss issue, and there isn't a concrete expected life time frame for this jack.

This is somewhat an expensive purchase for me, mainly because of shipping cost and I can't go to a store to purchase one. I just want to make sure I'm not throwing money away and that I'm making an informed purchase the first time.

Costco had a heavy duty aluminum one for about $100, I've got two, they get under my car easily, seem very well built. Like with anything at Costco, there one day, gone the next. I'd recommend highly if they still have them.

Arcan double pump floor jack bought at Costco for about $80. I like them so much I bought a second one. The thing that is great about mine is, I can control it while lowering extremely well. A slight turn of the handle and I can get it to lower and a snails pace, and it will hold that speed all the way down. I can speed it up or slow it down. That may seem like no big deal but, when you want a floorjack to just barely creep down this one does the job. Plus it has a pretty high lift, as well as being plenty low. My 348 is so low I cannot get my fist under the rear subframe, no joke, yet if I take the swivel pad off the arm I can get it under the subframe. As if you can't tell, I'm thoroughly pleased with my floorjacks.

AC Hydraulics - made in Denmark - google them to locate a supplier. Not the cheapest, not the most expensive, but very high quality and well suited for your requirements.

Thanks for all of the suggestions everyone :)

This now makes my decision harder, but I'm glad to see other available options.

AC Hydraulics makes great products. I was looking into this model previously, but I can't find anyone in the US that is currently importing them.

Yes, I suppose. But the OP asked for a good low profile jack, one where he didn't have to send back to be repaired all the time, quality was first on his list of purchasing criteria. I didn't see the requirement for detailed ROI analysis in his post, just providing an option.

I'm curious about this also. I'm going to read some reviews about this one.

Those jacks that you posted are very nice and I was not aware of them. They're something to consider as well.

If you buy the Costco aluminum low profile jacks you WILL have to return them after extensive use. I know of a number of people on a local BMW forum I am on that complain of the poor quality...I believe they are made in China like the ones from Harbor Freight. Not a huge deal, I suppose, but I rather start out with a better quality item and not deal with returning them over and over, like some had.

Did I mention I have two of them. :) To be honest, I got them at their annual garage sale, and paid $189 for one, and $99 for the other...but I would have paid full price, as they really are awesome. 2.25" at the lowest height, and can reach up to 20", or 22" with the saddle extension. Includes a rubber pad too.

And like all Griot's Garage products, lifetime warranty.

Good information, thank you. I'm really leaning towards purchasing the Griot's jack :)
