It's not always a happy ending with Image, read ross's "blasted wheels" thread, I just topped it up in this Section.

    Glad 412monzaindy's experience went smoother...

I bought a spare BBi rear clam shell but with the cost of my project soaring if anyone has any interest send me a PM and make an offer. It has a little damage which can be seen in the picture, the metal frame isn't bent, but certainly not pristine, would make a great spare or garage art. More pictures available on request.

My project is now fully underway. After reading the April 2008 issue of Forza, I knew that I wanted to find a nice platform to perform my build on.

Here are a few details of the build:

We now have the front and rear of the car stripped down
An aluminum radiator and upgraded SPAL fans from Ron Davis Racing will be installed, along with an upgraded A/C Condenser from Vintage Air.
SS Exhaust previously mentioned, which is very light compared to the existing exhaust.
The front and rear frame will be media blasted and painted.
The fuel tanks will be stripped and covered in Ceramic insulation.
The aluminum coolant lines running to the radiator will be covered in Ceramic insulation.
Ceramic insulation will be sprayed on the underside of the floor and the firewall.
Tons of parts have been sent off to be powder-coated.
Federalization has been removed, leaving the front and rear frame back in original condition.

I’m still thinking about upgrading the brakes using Revolution Brakes but I think I may wait until the car is back on the road.

Here are a few pictures to enjoy.

I have all of the filberglass inner fenders and the spare tire tub out of the car and want to get them refinished. The rear inner fenders are going to take a lot of heat and mine have some cracking (presumed from heat) while the spare tire hub could use a nice durable finish when loading and unloading luggage, etc.

Anyone have any ideas on what the options are when refinishing fiberglass?

I'd suggest you use Penske shocks and Brembo F50 brakes instead, much better. Thats what I have on my 512TR race car.

Interlux is the 'end all, be all' of marine finishes, IMO.

Fibreglass doesn't crack from heat, it cracks from stress.

I'd maximize the discs and pad materials within the OEM rims, but that's me.

Thanks for the Interlux information. Regarding the brakes, I keep going back and forth on upgrading the brakes/wheels/tires, still not sure what I will pick in the end, though for future resale and bang for your buck, maximizing the current system is the way to go.

Looking at the pictures in Forza and in another thread here at Ferrari Chat. Carbon Fiber looks great, though I am not sure how it would go over when it came time to sell the car.

I have seen what is called a carbon fiber wrap from 3M, though I am not sure that would work well for the rear inner fenders because of engine heat or if in person it actually looks decent or like a decal?

Painting the current fiberglass with a durable paint keeps with the superleggera theme, though I am open to ideas.

Plus I don't want to be too much of a copycat of the other Boxer. I already have copied his custom radiator solution.

    BigTex,
The cracks are just in the finish on the fiberglass not the glass itself. It looks like it shrank and cracked.

Is the white thing your rear wiring harness?

Looks like someone wrapped it in white duct tape. Or is it fiberglass tape?

Yes that is the rear wiring harness. Since I am going to be media blasting the rear frame. I wrapped the harness to protect it from any media.

The rear clamshell is still for sale. Send me a PM and let's see if we can work out a deal.
