Those that went last year had a blast from what I recall, I hope to see a good turn out regardless. I have a handful of friends running it this year and they're all great people. I'll answer any and all questions that I can.
I had blast at the last Uconn car show. Can't wait for this year. Here are some pictures Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Other than the mud issue (pictures posted above this post hah) which was taken care of last year, I cannot recall of any issues requiring beefed up security. We always have police stationed there and walking around the show though. What issue did you have though?
this ^ i'm assuming you wont be charging the $10.00 to the people whose cars were covered in mud last year
Having been reassured that the owners would get the mudslingers contact info by the Uconn car clubs officers... I was really disappointed to see nothing was ever done... An apology wasn't even offered to the vehicle owners
I'm sorry I'm not seeing anything funny about that. The cars were extensively detailed and the M5 even had a 3 stage paint correction before the show ( not your $20 car wash) and to have some redneck Deliberately blast mud and rocks all over some of the nicest cars in the show is completely unacceptable. I just think people should know that the issue was never taken care of before you come on a Ferrari forum and ask owners to bring their cars to the show. But it's cool if you don't belong to the car club then my post shouldn't bother you.
We were told by the police that they knew who the kid was, they've had multiple issues with him in the past and he would be dealt with. As for what was discussed with any of the people who's cars were covered in mud, I'm not entirely sure. See my post below. Calm down killer, my "hah" was in regards to being surprised at the pictures being posted. I was a member of the car club for many years and helped build it to what it is today, though when someone is unhappy with a show I'd certainly like to know about it. Anyone who's car was covered in mud please send me a PM and I'll make sure you're let in for free. EDIT: Johnny, based upon your posts it would seem you own the M5. Did you file a police report with any of the cops that were there in regard to the issue? I cannot recall hearing of anyone that filed a police report last year, though I could be mistaken.
Talked to the current President who said: The police were talked to, the owners of the cars had the chance to file a police report in regards to the issue. To the best of our knowledge, none at that time did. The person who sprayed the mud was NOT apart of the show, nor was he apart of the club. He was acting on his own and I'm sorry to say, issues sometimes happen that are beyond our control. Based upon those pictures, I know it sucks having your car sprayed with mud, it's happened to me before. However, I see no permanent damage done to the vehicle if the cleanup was done in the proper manner. I would prefer the remainder of this thread was left ON TOPIC. If there are any more questions or concerns in regard to the matter, please direct them to my PM so I can take care of them.
I don't own the M5. My car was on the far end of the M5, which was thankfully untouched, however, I was standing next to the Porsche, Which was maybe 3 feet away from the truck who backed up to where the cars were. I personally got hit with mud. Otherwise I wouldn't even bother commenting on the matter. Besides that I am not affiliating my post with the owners of the cars involved or anything else, Just my own personal opinion of the factual events that happened that day. If he was not part of the show, or in the show, Then this is most likely why the question of security was brought up in the first response to this thread.
I can whole heartedly understand peoples displeasure with having mud sprayed on either them or their vehicles. Whilst it may not leave any lasting damage it is an annoying thing to have to deal with and extremely annoying to have on ones self. That said, I'm not entirely sure how the person got into the show last year. If I remember correctly they pulled in, they were told to leave immediately and suffice it to say, they were directed to the back exit - I BELIEVE. From that point on, the ensuing incident with the mud occurred and from what I remember hearing the owner of the Porsche chased the guy down in his own vehicle as well. Police were on site to take anyone's statements and to handle any reports people wanted to file. As I already indicated though, no one filed a single report. At that point, it isn't in any persons hands to file a report that isn't the owner of the vehicle that was sprayed with mud. To the best of my knowledge, the kid WAS given a ticket later on as he was a known person to the police. Past that and letting you all know the front gate will be blocked off by 2 cars this year, rather than a series of cones I don't know what else to tell you. For the final time, if your vehicle or yourself was sprayed with mud and you're interested in going to the show this year, PM me your information and I will make sure you're let in for free. Otherwise, there's nothing else I can do to help you. I can say for certain that in all of the years the show has been running, never before has there been an incident and the show has always been a great time for those that have gone. I personally hope my work schedule permits my ability to attend this year.
the show generated a great deal of money for the organizers, they or you or whomever that be should have stepped up to the plate and offered to pay for a detail to the cars affected, bearing in mind the vandalizer was either allowed into the show by the organizers or entered the show becuase of inadaquet security, either way the organizers should have accepted at least partial responsiblity and offered some kind of restituion. just my 2 cents...and what i would have done if i had been the organizer
Yeah that mud incident was ridiculous.....I had the 355 there but luckily it was just out of reach of the splatter. If I make it up this year I'll be in the STi...
I indeed agree the mud incident should have happened and was ridiculous. You should know, no one in the car club pockets the money though. Being that it's a school organization the money goes back to the group itself. It's sad that one ****** bag ruins the reputation of an otherwise great show in some peoples eyes. I hope anyone that chooses to go this year, has a good time whether you bring/show your car or not.
you say 'group' what group is that, the school ? whomever profited should pay for the damage whether its the school or the people who organize it
Devon, police were on site, and never mentioned ANYTHING about a police report. They came over and asked us which way the truck went. One squad car parked on the dirt road the truck traveled on and the other car went "looking" for him. Never did anyone mention anything about a police report. Some students(club members volunteering I assume) said the club would pay for the details or damage. This was more than likely to calm down the two owners. The evening we got home from the show I sent an email to the group as I organized the group that these two were with... I sent it on there behalf to make sure they wouldnt be forgotten. I was ASSURED by a club officer that they would be taken care of... the info of the other driver would be forwarded to them and they would be able to press charges or file claims against him. The club officer asked for the two owner's information... I forwarded that information to them and that was the last of the communication chain. No formal apology, no update, no contact info for the other driver. It was a very lacadaisical and cavalier approach to the whole situation... These werent cheap cars by any means and the club just blew the insident off like it never happened... THAT is what annoys us. The perception I have of this group now is that they dont care about the cars that attend, they just care about the $10 the car brings in and thats it... As someone who organizes similar events to this one, and someone who has been a president/vice president in college organizations... the way this was handled was poorly and wouldnt fly now, last year, 10 years ago, or 10 years from now. NOT EVEN AN APOLOGY... shows a lack of respect towards the cars that come to the event. Not a group people should support.
I was going to, but the STi still has snow tires on and is looking too much like a daily driver. She needs a big wash and wax...
An unfortunate incident happened last year [REDACTED TO REMOVE OFFENSIVE LANGUAGE]; it's done and over with and certainly will not change at this point. Clearly your bantering has made no difference on the show and "lining the pockets of the officers" as you clearly seem to think the show does . That said, from what I hear this year went very smoothly without a single hiccup. As for it being a very quiet show? I hear the final count was over 650 cars. I'll hopefully be able to attend next year, once again work may get in the way though. https://picasaweb.google.com/113223391882983926403/Uconn040911?authkey=Gv1sRgCPWD3pSHqMfXvQE# some of the pictures from this years show.
