    being a 355 owner, i thought this was an appropriate place to post this. i fly and have flown models for 30 plus years now. i have been flying turbine jets for 12 years now. i have always wanted to do a ferrari f1 scheme on a jet but i just couldnt find the right model. finally, it is done. here she is. paint went on this weekend. still doing graphics before shooting the clear. i will post updates too. barry

    Very nice. I fly large scale WWII war birds. I have three c-47 twins with saito 4-strokes. Were jets hard to learn?

    Flying jet models - you are my hero. I haven't graduated from gliders yet. For those in the dark, model jets is the ultimate modeling experience and not for the faint of wallet either. You can easily spend $10K on one of these things, but mostly its in the $2-5K range. Finding an operating field is a challenge because model jets are lethal weapons.

    RC modeling is very popular in Germany.
    The TV series called "Die Modellbauer" (translated "the model builders") shows
    the people and their toys they build.

    Check out this video from the first episode about the largest jet built in Germany and
    a Tiger I tank.

    The jet plane took 10 months to build but was grounded by German officials due to 4 kg
    of excess weight. Length about 7,50 m, weight about 150 kg.

    The poor fella now tries to negotiate with German officials to allow the flight.

    Even though many of you won't be able to understand it, it will be interesting to see both the jet and the tank.

    Very cool guys. Currently working on a 13ft long, 16ft span all carbon fiber plane with 5 cyclinder radial. With the new FAA regulations, it's not easy getting these big planes in the air.

    That's amazing!! awesome work! only thing I can recommend is a new videographer. Amazing detail and I cannot believe how precise/real they sound. truly amazing! guess that's how many movies were filmed. If I did not know it any better, I would have guessed it was all real.

    How hard are they to fly and especially to land?

    How does does something like that cost in material/supplies alone?

    dlynes, models arent to hard to fly. there are many cheap trainers to learn on. just get a good instructor. you are right about the movies. the howard hughes movie with decaprio, all models. spruce goose too. my models in the video are pricey. the wildcat is around 10g's. that motor was $4000 by itself. but these are very high end models built for scale competition. http://www.franktiano.com/TopGunFrameset.htm here is the website for the event. you can look at photos from past events to see the quality of the models. it is an invitation only event with competitiors from all over the world. here is my 2008 jet. f84g finished in thin alluminum with 1000's of rivets etc. and a couple of more of my f84f. she was runner up in 2007.

    Very nice and expensive hobby.
    Use to be a member of PARCS ( Pennsylvania Ave. Radio Control Society ) which flew
    at Floyd Bennet Field in Brooklyn about 12 years ago. Bought lots of RC jet models
    mostly Ducted Fans. Just ran out of time to keep up with all my hobbies.
    My basement is full of hangar queens. Until I can find the time for it I'm
    vicariously living thru you, LOL. Hoping for some tips sooner than later.

    the NH-90 is a turbine heli waiting completion.

    Doesn't ring a bell. It has been a while. I haven't kept up with the contacts there.
    Just some fun memories of flying in the field. Use to go to a lot of exhibits specially
    Deland FL and enjoy RC models. Unfortunately, working 60 - 70 hr/ wk doesn't
    Leave time much for myself.

    Ah, deland jets. Now there was an event I never did make. Sure remember the stink it caused though. I am a 60 to 80 hr a week guy myself. Now get that chopper going. Sad to see that jetcat sitting there. He wants to fly. Barry

    How many hour of flying the jets before you got comfortable with it. I remember, I get
    Cold hands in the beginning, just like when I drove my first rari. Things happen real
    Fast when you deal with RC jets. The sound and smell makes it so realistic. The
    Spooling time would seem to add a bit more complexity.

    The " stink " at DeLand, not talking about the fire after a crash are you?

    for me, maybe a year. i fly most every weekend and have flown for 30 plus yrs. i have test flown almost every kind of model you can think up. even most jets, with the exception of the rare stuff like swing wings and bombers. i like to keep a weekend low maintenance jet in the stable. gives me lots of low stress airtime. the f jet will be my weekender, as i sold my last weekender. my last one was a reaction. i have owned 3 of them. i sale one after a year or so to do a different scheme. hard jet to beat for quality stick time. barry

    ps what model of fcar do you own? lets see some pics. i assume a 348 or 55 in this forum.

    Got a 55. My first F car was a 94 red Berlinetta. Hung on to that for 3 years. Traded it
    for a blk 55 GTS which is currently with Bradan for an interior. Hope to get it soon.

    The 58 I picked up Aug 2010.

    As on the side, when the jets first came out, JPX a French company made them, ran
    on propane. That went out cause of the flammable nature of the fuel, remember those, LOL.
    I got one of those. Around that time time, lots of developers were round, like
    Kurt Schreckling from Germany who flew a F-100 with his home made jet engine. I flew there to meet that guy around 1993. When I had more time for myself.
    The kerosene jets were just developing then.

    i remember the jpx and garlan hamilton flying with one. i had a golden west, sophia, amt, then to jetcat the last 10 years. they run like a timex and the service is top shelf. barry
