I was just cruising Ebay and it seems like quite a few cars are asking $60k+....yes I emphasize asking because that's all it is, but seems like a big jump from a year ago. Anyone else notice this? I don't really expect an appreciation at this point, but with so many cars asking $60k+ that's where I'd start my car.

Anyway she's way too much fun to drive, not for sale :D

...well I hope there is an "uptick" in value, however, it may just be the fact that it is springtime!

lets all list our cars for $70k that might inflate the prices some. i hare seeing them for sale for sale in the 40's and 50s. well i would not own one if they where $70k but maybe i just came into one at a good time. i drove mine last week and i was hooked after the first mile again. Damn Ferrari's. i am finding out you can not get rid of them once you own one or drive them that is.

I bought my 1999 spider last spring after looking for a year for the one I wanted and I can say that convertibles go up in price as summer approaches and then come back down a bit in the fall.
I think it's the natural order of things fast and pretty...

I have one of those 355s over $60K on Ebay for the last three weeks. I have had several offers and inquiries. The offers I get are completely ridiculous all the way to decent, but not to my number yet.

Lots of folks really like the 355 and remind me how much they like the look of the car.

I agree that it's a trend - higher asking prices in early spring, and then lower closer to the fall.

But I like the idea of keeping it for life :D (in my case a 348)

From what I have been seeing, the spring time trend is part of it, the fact that they are 'asking' prices is part of it, and the majority of the distressed sales related to the econmic downturn have already happened naturally lifting prices after that.

Wow, that was an amazing deal in San Jose. I would have jumped all over that if I didn't already have mine.

As others have mentioned, I think we're just seeing a little seasonal variation.

If you figure $9K for a major service plus headers, seat potentiometers, dash pulling, stickies and whatever else is unknown and you'll quickly be at $60K before you even drove it. That might be a bit high for a 95. Also that car had NEVER had a major - 16 years - so I hope the new owner pushed it to his Ferrari mechanic.

There was a yellow 99 Spider here in FL with 27K miles, a recent major from a well known shop, tubi headers and exhaust but had a stolen/recovered title (interior gutted but has pictures) that was asking $35K and sold a little below that two weeks ago. I tried to buy it and had a compression check/PPI scheduled but somebody snapped it up site unseen from CA a few days before my appointment. I'm obviously in the market but being very patient thanks to all the great advice on this board including never buy a Ferrari without a compression check.

There are a lot of "garbage" cars out there; a good, clean 355 rarely ends up at an auction. I find it laughable at many "fair market value" opinions based on Mayheim or Ebay. Good cars with documentation are still commanding a healthy premium over the rest. 355 is not a commodity car: many variables (service, documentation, interior, header, valve guides, potentiometer, convertible top frame) will effect the fair market price. A $45k car could ended up being more expensive than a $60K car.

There is a late model spider for sale right now, that at first glance it has a very attractive "Buy it Now" price. However, I can tell you that car has no documentation, interior is beat to hell ($5K), needs a major service ($6K) and it's convertible top has a bent frame ($15K).

With that said, there are also sellers who think they can get $$$$$ for crap cars, only to see them sit for 3 month with no buyers. IMO, there's no uptick (nor going to be...for a long while) in the 355 spider market. The 355 market has simply leveled out.
