the brothers have another one to help a new guy with... okay so its weird...the clutch has absolutely NO slippage at all. but it shifts like crap...like its cold all the time. when i start it up in gear with the clutch depressed the car jumps... ive not read anyone on here with that issue? so WTF is it? and it seems to be getting worse...
It sounds to me like you have air in your clutch line. When you press the clutch pedal, do you feel solid resistance as soon as you touch the pedal or do you have to press it down a bit before resistance is felt? It should be solid from the start. If it is not air in the system then maybe there is a problem in the mastercylinder (if you are not seeing any leaks from the clutch housing area).
It could be one of 2 things. 1) You have a problem with something in the hydraulics of the clutch. The clutch master cylinder could be going bad and is not holding pressure. With out the proper pressure the throw out bearing will not be able to push as forcefully as it needs to. It could also be that the seals of the throw out bearing are going bad and bleeding off fluid. But you would see signs of leaking under the clutch bell housing if that were the case. Try rebleeding the system first and see if it gets better. Heres the thread for the clutch master cylinder http://ferrarichat.com/forum/showthread.php?t=310129 Heres the thread you should read if your throw out bearing is leaking. http://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/showthread.php?t=296614 2) There are broken fingers on the diaphragm pressure plate, or the diaphragm is busted. If it's broken fingers, the pressure is not getting evenly distributed, and the other fingers are over exerted. The clutch then disengages incompletely, lopsided, or not at all. Here's the thread you'll need if it's the pressure plate. http://ferrarichat.com/forum/showthread.php?t=296274
there is immediate pressure on the pedal...like NO play at all. not seeing any leaks either. the pressure plate sounds like it could be the culprit? you guys are the best. im sure someday i will be able to repay with my assisstance...actually i already did...i replaced a clutch in a 360 for a guy here in town....
Take plenty of pictures of what you find Sean, and post them up. It'll help out the next guy. Even better would be to post up a how-to thread.
That would not cause the car to jump forward when he starts it in gear though. If he has a solid pedal and no leaks, I think Ernie is right and it is in the clutch itself.
i just realised i posted this last fall on your thread ernie...guess im going to be tearing into it pretty quick like...but i have to get the xv motorsport suspension under the 73 cuda 440 this weekend! to many projects..lol so a clutch shop rebuilt your pressuer plate?
Haha - I'm referring to the part where he's saying there is no slippage in the clutch but the car is shifting poorly in all gears. Poor adjustment of the cables could cause this...
Yup. They just made me a new one. But......... The new one doesn't have the clamping force of the old one. The new one feels more like a regular clutch. Plus with the old one I could shift gears fast, dump the clutch, and bark the tires. Not so with the new pressure plate. When I tried to do a fast shift I could feel the clutch slip. So, if you have one made, make sure they can make the new one as stiff as the old one.
so can i just buy a new pressure plate? looked at ricambi but didnt see it unless you buy the whole package?
Yup. I don't know if you have the single or double disc clutch. If you have the double then all you'll need to do is take it apart and send out your old spring diaphragm and have a new one made. If you have the single then you'll need to send out the whole pressure plate and have a new diaphragm fitted. The pressure plate for the single disc is different than for the double. The spring diaphragm is riveted in place on the single disc pressure plate. What ever the case it can still get fixed at a reasonable price. When I did mine it cost me $120 for the new diaphragm, and to clean up the friction material on the clutches. I used Friction Materials in Long Beach California (562) 436-4224.
its a single im sure...94 spider but you said yours came back not as much pressure as it needs to be? thats why i wondered if a new one can just be ordered?
Yeah yours is a single. Just check around for a clutch shop near you. I'm sure they can do the job. The diaphragm can be made to what ever pressure you want. I just didn't think to tell them I needed it to be stiffer than what I got. Or try sourcing one directly from AP Racing. But then again, they may try and clip you for the whole thing too, and not just the diaphragm.
Okay so my pressure plate assembly looks different Then yours. cant upload fotos from here...but the plate itself is covered with like grease...pressure plate has no cracks and teeth are even. If I push throwout bearing into front of car(compressing two springs) it only pops back out half way unless I help it?
I'm at homeowners my android...don't know how...its new toy.but It has. A ring holding it in place.maybe I just didn't apply enuff pressure to get apart...seems like pplate I okay. So could oil from triple seals cause it to stick like described?? So can I Clean clutch with something, replace triple seals and go??
