Well, she's gone. 4 years, almost to the day of ownership. (4yrs, 22 days to be exact) It's been a great run, but it was time for her to go on to the next caretaker. I've loved owning this car and have had a hell of a lot of fun with her, but as we all know, things change and its time for something new. This won't be my last Ferrari. ;)
I won't spoil anything for the new owner, who may or may not lurk here, so I'll let him post up if he chooses.
Unfortunately for you guys, I'm not going anywhere. :) I'll continue to be active across all of FChat, Moderate the IN/MI section and lurk in P&R as I do almost every day.
Anyway, it's been a surreal day. Thought you'd be interested.

Let me be the first to say you have been a good caretaker of that car, and very few people can claim that. Best of luck and keep us posted.

    Someone got a great car.

I couldn't imagine the feeling of seeing your first Ferrari moving on.

    Congrats on the sale.

Sorry to hear that Jim, but I know you had good reasons to sell her. I also know you put a lot of love and work into that car to make it perfect.

Thanks for the kind words, guys! It's been a wierd day. I moved the car over to a dealership that I frequent this morning at 0800. (this is where the car was picked up) Then, a couple of us flew to Nashville for meetings with a new client. My buddy who works at the dealership texted me the attached pic while I was in my meeting. I was home by 6 to find an empty garage.....
On the good side, the empty garage is an opportunity to fill it with the next Ferrari. ;)

Congrats on taking the next step. The GT4 crew will all miss you, but I'd guess there's a nice F-car in your immediate future. Can't wait to see what it is.

Whoa, I had no idea it was up for sale! Was I asleep at the wheel?
Now is a good time to move along though. The GT4 prices haven't changed much but lots of other excellent cars have slumped in the last few years. And excellent time to step over to something different.

So Jim, what is it? Are you looking or have you committed?

Wow. She's really gone after 4 years. I got my 308 right around the same time you got yours and followed many of your posts. My car was gone for 5 months being serviced, so I know that empty feeling in the garage.

It will be great to watch for future updates on what the next F-car is. Sad to see her go but good luck in your next purchase.

    Jim,

Whoever got that car sure will love all of the work you did to her. I remember the conversations we had a while back about your suspension work. My Boxer was at the body shop for far too long and that void in the shop was tough to see...Best of luck with whatever you replace her with!

    Best,
    David

Say wha? I had no idea you were moving her along. Well, I'm glad you are filling the garage with another. What might you be considering?

I'd heard stories about that too and thought it was only an urban myth.

Your car had a fabulous and caring owner who took impeccable care of an aging beauty. It works better than before you owned it, looks better, and probably sounds better. Whomever bought your car got a fabulous deal on a well documented car, no matter what price they paid. The GT4 should be sad bc you are no longer it's caretaker!

I assume that you will refill the garage with another Ferrari, but I'm not totally sure. You are enough of a car guy, rather than just a Ferrari guy, that it could be something else interesting and cool. However, my guess is another, more modern Ferrari. Perhaps one that doesn't have the lovely gasoline odor of our GT4s!

Thanks for all the kind words guys! I kept the sale low key and totally off the boards. The new owner approched me a while back asking if I'd ever sell it. I told him "NO" initially. Several months went by and I started to feel like maybe it was time, so I contacted him. That was when my Wife got pissed. LOL!! So, I backed down. Then I made up my mind that I was ready to do it and the rest is history.
There are many reasons for me to let it go at this time. We bought a big house/property last year that needs constant attention, kids are very very active and they need a lot of attention, and if I'm ever going to step up to something different in the Ferrari world, I need to focus on saving my pennies for that purchase. So, all in all its bittersweet, but it's a good time to move the car to its next caretaker. I do know that the gentleman who bought the car has some good plans for it, so the car will continue to recieve the care and feeding that it deserves.

I am proud to say I am the new owner of Jim's GT4.
The journey to find a GT4 started many years ago, but more focused efforts in the last few years.
Having a number of them escape me, it was a frustrating process but I am glad where I ended up.
Jim and I began corresponding as he was trying to help me locate a car and locate one he did.
    For the record, I never wanted a Ferrari; I wanted a 308 GT4.
I was attracted to the cars aesthetics first and foremost. After doing research and learning the history and controversy that surrounds the car, it only made me want it more.
I believe this to be the sole reason Jim felt good about parting with the car to me. I have no intentions of trading up, only improving on what I have.

I am lucky to have a willingness to get my hands dirty and a great supporting cast with Ferrari techs in "the family".
I am looking forward to the adventure of owning a GT4.
I am confident I will get all the help I need here in keeping 08140 up to the standards that Jim has set thus far.

    CHEERS!

What's going on here? Returning to the 308 section after several months in the doldrums (while my GT4 was getting a re-respray), only to find you selling your car Jim???

You do realize that there is no "moving on" after owning a GT4, do you?

No newer car will be as gratifying as they all drive way to easy, BMW-like, and no older car will be as good to throw around without worrying about its value.

There can only be one. And that's the GT4!!! Series 1, Euro....

    (a slight bias here)

But congrats on the sale, I guess.... ;)

Sorry for your loss, but in the words of Clint Eastwood "A mans got to do what a mans got to do" I'm sure it was a difficult decision after all the work/time you have put into the car, but it sounds like she is going to a good home. Now you'll have the fun time of thinking of what car to get next, the list of possibilities could be quite long. Good luck.

yes, you are correct Hans....there can only be one! That is what makes it even more bittersweet, but the car is in good hands and I'll be living vicariously through you and a few others on the site. That is until I get the next Ferrari. ;)
