Enzo for sale at Ron Tonkin Gran Turismo

hi guys! i'm new here and i like ferraris although i don't own one but i still love them. anyways i just want to ask since the enzo can only be bought as a used car, if you buy one today does ferrari still have to decide whether you can have it or not or you can buy it without too much hassle?

 

The advanced traction/launch control gets the 458 off the line, but it can't hide from the physics of power to weight at speed. An Enzo is far more special than any 458 could ever be, regardless.

If someone wants to be King of the Hill, the tuner route can yield relatively common cars that can leave just about any exotic for dead. It's an academic, temporary thing anyway, being King. I prefer to enjoy cars for the experience they give me.

 

The Enzo didn't have a busted suspension at the Ring. The Enzo's shocks can't take extended track driving at the limit and overheated.

The Enzo is very dated and by no means a track car.

A 599FXX did a 6:50 at the Ring. A 599 GTO would leave an Enzo far behind at the Ring.

The comment about the Enzo shocks overheating, I found rather interesting.

This very topic about shocks overheating as relates to a Corvette at least which uses the MagneRide System I posed to one of their engineers.
Mr. Dellinger (Controlled Suspension Engineering Delphi Corporation - Chassis Systems) replied that 'I can assure you, there is no “heat issue” related to racetrack performance and the Corvette'. This was in 2008 so perhaps there have been engineering advances since the the 2003 Enzo chassis program?

once you cut open an shock absorber and see what happens then its easy to see what happens. if you see a cut away video of a shock doing it job you will see where differences come down to oil/gases.

Have they solved the dry sump problem yet ?

 

I'd be surprised if a 599 GTO is faster than an Enzo around the Ring, even with 8 years in tire technology advancement...

1. A GT2 RS did 7:18. I believe independent test have shown this car to be significantly faster than a 599 GTO. So the 599 GTO is slower than 7:18.
2. I believe the 599 GTO weighs at least 500 lbs more than the Enzo.

If you put modern street tires on the Enzo and fix the suspension overheat issue, wouldn't you expect to see 7:10 or better?

BTW, I don't believe anyone has tested the 599 GTO on the Ring. The 599 FXX is a different animal.

I too believe that with today's tyres the Enzo would easily destroy just about any modern Ferrari.

 

Possibly but even with 450 lbs lower weight than an Enzo Ferrari P 4/5 by Pininfarina's shocks are not up to very hard track use.

P 4/5 C's shocks don't have that issue but they are a bit different.

 

Jim - I'm sure you explained this in the big P4/5 thread, but what were the main areas where the 450lb weight loss were realized?

 

The main saving was shearing off the top of the Enzo Tub as P 4/5's shape reduces a lot of frontal area.

Lighter Body panels. Plexi side/rear windows. Totally different/lighter front and rear chassis subframes. Lighter battery.

At some point we're going to repace her front subframe with a CF one we designed which will lower her weight a bit more in the front which will help handling.

Her mileage is over 8K.

 

The Z06 started with an 8 qt. pan and that was increased to a 10.5 qt pan which is also now the same capacity as the ZR1 model uses. However that extra capacity may just have been for convenience during factory assembly; without the possible confusion of two different versions of the same part for inventory. Not to mention some technical consistency when the dealer is doing an oil change.
As for a 'fix' there are aftermarket pans that have 11 qt capacity that may or may not be better engineered for less than $1,000.
Changing one piece of the puzzle may have unintended effects on other parts...

Incredible. Rhetorical questions: Would it have significantly affected the price or safety for Ferrari to make it this way from the start? Are there that much better design tools or materials now?
OK plexi maybe isn't practical for regs or durability but everything else just seems like common sense.
What is the P4/5C's weight compared to a 430 Cup or whatever it's called?
I love the light cars.

 

This Enzo is very well kept, one owner car...miles, hardly "high" IMHO. It's not part of Tonkin's collection, it belongs to a local collector which actually leans more on the side of enthusiast than "collector"...he has owned, or still owns, just about every Ferrari ever made and maintains them well and enjoys them at the same time. He's just a car guy that's fortunate enough to be able to buy what he wants, drive it the way it was meant to be driven and then moves on to the next few cars that peak his interest. I'd suspect that the 16M is also his as he sells almost all of his cars exclusively through Tonkin.

On a side note, if you can find an Enzo with 1k miles on it for under 1MM, tell me where and I'll buy it tomorrow. No matter what you "think" they are worth, fact of the matter is you cannot buy any Enzo today for under 1MM...with exception to the Eddie Griffin one, which we all know the history of. And I'm not talking about some random car located in Europe somewhere....there are NO Enzo's available in the US for under 1MM...that's just plain and simple fact.

 

The Enzo was very well engineered but it's not surprising that 6 years after that Engineering was done we could improve it.

Lightening a car safely is expensive.

P 4/5 Competizione is a LOT lighter than a 430 Scud and will be even in street legal configuration.

 

That's simply not true. Perhaps none are advertised openly, but I know of a US market Rosso Corsa/Nero with 9k miles that could be bought for under 1MM right now, and I have a friend in AZ that just looked at a US car with 6500 miles that the owner would sell for right at 1MM.

 

I know of a black one for sale if anyone's interested (in buying me a present).

The question is tho, would you get as many looks from by standers in a 458/new mclaren/ other italian car that starts with L.... as you would with a Enzo, people who really know theses cars and the history admire the enzo a lot more than the new cars that are coming out...

My dream car is still a Enzo.

 

And it's sold.

 

And it's back.

Not correct.
Enzo time 7:25,21 was performed in 20,600 Km configuration (without the straight with Box) while Autobild test of 458 Italia 7:32,9 was performed in 20,832 Km (full Nordschleife lap) and with passenger.
Enzo Bridgestone RE050A Scuderia are possible the worst UHP tire of the market. Michelin PS2 (with K1 spec for ferrari) are quite better.
Both are old tires, now replaced from Potenza S-001 and Pilot supersport.
