    I have not posted in this section before, but what the hell. Yesterday was a perfect day and I managed to Solo at KTYR - the controller was gentle with me and the winds so light it was "easy", although I was mysteriously sweaty after my 3 landings. And on one I got a bit flummoxed by a commercial aircraft that entered the pattern, extending my downwind (over trees - I hate trees at low altitude) and then the guy was slow departing the active runway to boot.

    I have a long way to go, and feel pretty sheepish compared to the vastly more expeerienced pilots on here, but you have to start somewhere and this was a nice milestone to get past!

    Congrats Keith, I flew into Tyler Pounds Many many moons ago. That's a nice home field. Do they still have that museum done there?

    yes, museum still seem to be there - there wer allkinds of ilitary aricraft on the ramp. My visit was brief and I stayed in the plane. I'll get out next time

    Its one heck of an accomplishment, i remember mine like it was yesterday.
    Just remember, every takeoff is optional every landing is mandatory.

    Congrats Keith. I am sure it will be a day you never will forget. I never forgot mine and certainly have a lot of stories. Eight weeks ago I just got my medical back after 3.5 yrs as was involved in a terrible accident and lost my left leg. Was a great experience to be back in the air again. Good luck! Fly safe!

    And finally did spins yesterday in a Super Decathlon. Also some slow rolls, aileron rolls and inverted flight previously. There is something actually comforting to getting slow without power and then deliberately pulling the stick the rest of the way back and kicking the rudder and knowing what is going to happen and how to deal with it. I need a bunch more practice to recover onto the same heading with any precision, but at least most of the anxiety is gone.

    great experience, I heard back in the day spins were required. I didn't care for ground becoming a blender, but glad I did it. The slow aileron rolls were fun. where did you do it at? I don't think Marcair has any tailwheels now.

    getting aerobatic training is the best training any pilot can get... it's like having a fire extinguisher and being able to use it when it is needed most... flying into unexpected crap where you and the plane get your collective stuffing knocked out, there is the confidence that the plane can be managed while being thrown about regardless of attitude

    4 Winds Aviation at Aero Country (T31) teaches tailwheel endorsement, spins and aerobatics and they have a Super Cub, Decathlon, Pitts S-2 and recently an Extra 300. I am considering getting lessons in all of them if training continues to be as much fun as it was yesterday. Tomorrow morning hopefully some loops and maybe even half Cuban. I am fighting a bit of airsickness, but told it will subside with practice.

    It is fun to just use full control inputs for some manouvers and realize the plane continues to fly just fine. I never cranked on the plane in my PP training.
