wel, hard to say..I am confronted now with this for a few weeks,,searching since for a "cheap" used one but to no avail, they all want 400+ euro. Meaning that people who sell this, seem to know the value at least, which makes me think that it happens often. It is also hard to find a used one so I think it happens more often than we know.. Next weekend, i will do the "Ernie trick" and wil let you know how it goes.
Sorry guys have not been on line for a few days. Try these guys. http://www.douglasvalley.co.uk/ Also ask eurospares for second hand as they break a lot of cars. These are the 2 i tried. Both said they had in stock.
Here is the result, I drilled in bottom piece a center hole of 6 mm and about a small inch deep, then i started narrowing down the diameter of the upper shaft to also 6mm. attached pic is the result. The drilling went very well, it also clearly showed the metal is of insufficient quality as it drilled like butter. Inserting the pin in the hole and yes, it was a good fit without play, i could gearshift again but sensed immediately that the 6mm was to weak and on the pic you can already see the bending of it. I admit i didnt weld it and firmly believe it is a crucial step in this procedure. If you weld it well, i certainly think it WILL hold for a while. I welded mine 6 weeks ago and it didn't hold, so i think it would not survive a weld again. I ended up purchasing one at Eurospares finally, should arrive this week. Image Unavailable, Please Login
speaking of gear shifts... All our linkages to the transmission are cable but I read recently that the 348GTC has rods. Has anybody done this upgrade from cable to rods? Is it an available upgrade? Can this be done to older versions? Has anybody info on these rods? Me thinks that shifting would dramatically improve. Kai
That had to be a misprint. Because Darren has a GTC and his does not have a rod. The only 348 that I know of that has a shift rod is Andy's ride. But his was a total custom job so that he could run the 355 six speed in his 348.
It was from this article last year mentioned in this thread. http://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/showthread.php?t=301337 Kai
The shape does not look all that complicated. Anybody tried to get a machine shop to turn and machine a new one out of better SS? Taz Terry Phillips
I know I read the same article. I asked Darren to check his to confirm what the article said, and he said his was cables. So that is why I said the article is incorrect. Unless that particular car from the article is a one off.
