I bought a new brake booster, master cylinder and a reservoir for a 1984 308 QV Euro. The original master cylinder and reservoir was replaced before I owned the car. I was told this is the right one for this car. The problem I am having is getting fluid to both the front and rear brakes. If I pour fluid into the reservoir It will only supply fluid to one side. Half of the reservoir is blocked off with no cover on the top to fill it. There is some kind of a connection coming out the front of the reservoir. there is also a thin copper pipe with a connection on the end. There are also wires that should be connected. Check the picture and see if you think this is the right one for this car. The first pic is the new one. The second is the old one.

If someone has a picture of theirs, that would be great.

    Thank you for your help,
    Steve

The reservoir is definetly not correct.........looks like a 328 Reservoir.

The 1984 QV Euro reservoir is by Benditalia and is the same as used on the Alfa Romeo "33" models 1983-1986. I think it was also used on Alfa GTV and GTV6's as well as early Alfa 75 models?

    I've got a 1984 Euro QV GTS and a 1983 ALFA 33 GCL.

    Hope this helps,

    Pete

That new reservoir looks just like my OEM 84 US version. Same weird fill system, but when I fill from the single cap, fluid goes to both halves. Not until its nearly full though.

Pretty sure mine is on 180 out from yours though with the cap towards the pedal box.

I know the master cylinder on the old one is wrong. Check what it says on the bottom. Plus it only has two holes where it connects to the booster. It was held on with 4 nuts and some big washers. The reservoir could be right because I have a place where wires were cut and spliced together. Although it is connected to the master cylinder with a screw and it does not say Benditalia.

The nub is to feed a master cylinder for a hydraulic clutch.

Thanks for the replies, I am getting closer to finding out what this should look like.

    1) Booster is good, I don't have to take that out again.

    2) Master cylinder says Bosch, I don't know if that is right or not.

    3) Reservoir is not right

Viper_Driver thanks for taking the time to take that pic, I know you had to do some work to get that shot.

Does anybody have a shot of their 1984 Euro. That would clear up alot of issues.

Your MC should be a Benditalia as well. Anything else, and it ain't right.

That Benditalia MC is quite rare. Obviously, it mounts to four studs on the booster, not two. You can look around for an Alfa, or Fiat or Lancia cross reference for a less expensive (but the same) MC all you want, but I don't think you'll find one....at least I couldn't and I know Alfa and Fiat stuff pretty well.

You could always look around for a used MC and then have it sleeved in brass or stainless. I have mine sleeved in brass and it was less than buying a new one...and it'll last longer.

    Good luck!

I think I will try to find a used one like you did. Do you have a pic of the reservoir.

That reservoir may not look like the OEM one, but it is likely perfectly serviceable.

The front and rear circuits have to have separate supplies of fluid so that if one circuit fails catastrophically (cut hose, split hardline, ...) the other will still work. That's why you have the barrier effectively dividing your one piece of plastic into two independent compartments. Look for a small passage at the top of the barrier, so that as you completely fill the first half, it starts to flow into and eventually fill the second half.

As long as the reservoir is delivering fluid and not air into the two inlets on the master cylinder, it's doing its job.

Sorry, meant to say bronze rather than brass.

I would have preferred stainless, but they did it in bronze before I realized they might do that! No, it wasn't whitepost - had heard enough bad things about them to know not to send it their direction....
