I'll have to look for that next time I'm at the liquor store. I'm also going to make it out some time to try this one which is pretty local to me... http://bainbridgedistillers.com/

Supposed to be very good but I don't think they have much distribution set up yet. Might just have to take a drive out there this week sometime!

Sorry guys, I stepped away for a few....As stated above, it is very comparable to Scotch whiskey. I am a Glenlivet and Glenfidich guy usually but always keep a bottle of this on hand. I would compare it to a mid-high grade Scotch. The first time I tried it was at a cigar bar and have enjoyed it ever since. Usually pretty hard to find at most liquor stores but if you rub elbows with a good manager, they can usually find it for you and have it ordered...and who knows, they might like it and keep it stocked!

Quite delicious! Me, and my couple fingers of Macallan 12 are very jealous.

Shot or two of Vodka (anything will do), same again of lemon juice, fill to the top with coke.

Simple, easy, tasty. Party favorite. :)

Looks like Chicago is starting to warm up. Sitting on the balcony enjoying a glass of Van Winkle Special Reserve 12 yr. I know it's no Pappy Van 23 yr. but hey, I'm working my way up ;)

no way - tonight out at dinner my father (in town from NJ) asked if I had any single malt in the house. Ashamed that I did not, stopped at a liq on the drive home and from their meager selection of good scotch bought a bottle of Balvenie DoubleWood (aged 12 years in traditional oak, final few months in old sherry casks).
    Fantastic stuff, well worth $50!

That is a regular favorite of mine as well.

Tonight I am dealing with a head cold that is descending into my chest.

The Dr. recommends a hot toddy and I am complying.

Quite a delicious bourbon. I've seen its proof vary quite a bit depending on the bottling over the years. Just needs a splash of bottled water ;)

BTW, is it too late to be drinking mint juleps? Had some left over Mint simple syrup, couldn't let it go to waste!

    Hey dubbya,
I bought a bottle(next to Forty creek on the shelf) last night and enjoyed some very much, thank you for the tip. I'm not one who can eloquently describe nuances of flavor, the best I can say is it tasted a bit caramely to me which is a good thing.
    Further research tonight perhaps.
RE the Yamazaki. It was shelved with Scotches which aren't my cup of whiskey so I didn't buy it, knowing I won't appreciate it.

Good to hear. I like it and recommend it to anyone who talks about Crown Royal. I think it's way better than Crown, and at least here, it's about the same price. I still have to try the Forty Creek. Maybe I'll swing by the store tomorrow and grab one!!

I also signed up for a tour of the Bainbridge Distillery in a couple weeks so will try that one out!

I bought a bottle of the Forty creek today and cracked it open tonight. Good stuff! I'm going to try a quick side by side with the Pendleton some time but I think I could easily drink either one! Thanks for the suggestion!!

If you like the DoubleWood, I recommend you try the PortWood. 21 years, same dual cask trick except round #2 is port casks, not sherry. Extraordinary honeyed tones. Pretty much at the other end of the spectrum from Laphroaig-ish peaty smokey malts. About US$100 and difficult but not impossible to find. Readily available at Heathrow!

The other night I opened a bottle of 2005 Heitz Cellars Cab. Really nice bottle, dark fruit and vanilla, silky and full-bodied, and a great year. I have a bottle of ZD, Montelena, Stags Leap waiting; but they need a few more years in the bottle. I have been drinking from Riedel Vinum Extreme Cab glasses that are really fabulous. So much nose, it really adds pleasure to drinking a great wine.

Pinot Noir. My latest favorite is Highliner from the Hitching Post in Buellton, CA (Santa ynez Valley). They make their own wines. OK, we visited because of the movie Sideways, which if you like wine you must see.

    You are all too funny.

I won't bore you all with the "fancy" this is what we've been drinking. But I will turn you on to something that is pretty damn simple, and delicious.

    Blueberry Vodka and Lemonade.

If it's been mention before, you have my apologies.

    Carry on!
