TAZ you have the secret to clone a new set of keys. I bought a set from Ferrari but can't reprogram them, Ferrari can't either. I have 1 black fob the works and thats it. What do you do.

    Thanks,

Don- Can you start the car with key and PIN alone? This tells you how to do that. If not, you may have the wrong PIN.

The last cars built with that alarm system were completed in 2005. Will not be too long and the newer mechanics will not know how to program the ECU to accept new sets of fobs.

I can start the car with the key and the 1 black fob I have, I have the original pin number but Ferrari tell me that the ECU must have been changed and no one knows the new pin so it can't be reprogramed and I should buy a new ECU for $2300. The black fob I have is coded to the unit or I wouldn't be able to turn the alarm system off and start the car. Is there any way the black fob I have can reprogram the new fobs?

Your existing black can be used to clone the new set - the only catch obviously is that you will be unable to use your car whilst the black is away being cloned (which only takes a few days) - there are one or two folk on both sides of the Atlantic who will hopefully chime in to volunteer their services

Does the new $2300 ECU come with new fobs or would that be extra?

Don- I know you can start the car with the key and fob, but can you start it with the key and PIN only (not using the fob) using the instructions I posted? If not, you may have the wrong PIN. If you can, then try the next step, which is programming the ECU to accept the new fobs. So far we have had 100% success with owners programming the ECU with new sets if they can start their engine using PIN key cycles.

Terry- The complete Anti-Theft Electrical Board Kit comes with three matching fobs. All that has to be done is put in the new boards/ECU and you are set. There was a complete 355 set on E-Bay recently including the boards, but they did not have the PIN. It would have been possible for any owner to plug them in an use the three fobs, he just would not have had the PIN. $299.

I spoke to Ferrari of Ontario, and they said there are 5 [ I believe ] PIN receptors in the FCU. If at the factory, for example, they mess up the programming and use one or two of the receptor sites, then now you only have 3 sites left. Then, if the PIN gets lost among various owners, it's possible to fill ALL the receptor sites, as new fobs and PINs are introduced. Eventually, regardless of having new transmitters [ fobs ] and a new PIN, the FCU will not accept a PIN change because there is no more room left.

Bruce- I have never seen that in any of the tech data, but there is so much BS floating around on the alarm system, no telling whether that is true or not. If there are five PIN receptors or whatever, though, you should be able to program the Alarm ECU to accept five new sets of fobs, and I doubt anybody has had to go that far.

As far as I know, the new PIN is just written over the old one and so are the IDs for the three new fobs.

The five limit, if it exists, definitely does not apply to fobs in general, because my car and dozens, if not hundreds, of owners have had the ECU accept at least six fobs and two PINs.

On the new cars, the alarm ECU will accept up to seven fob IDs, but new ones just overwrite old ones so there is no limit on the ultimate number of fobs you can program into the ECU. Plainly stated in the OM on the new cars is that if you do not have all your key/fobs with you when programming new fobs/keys, the system will overwrite the ID on the missing fob/key, which will no longer work.
