So mid march i flew down to florida, and purchased a beutifull 2005 F430.. wile driving the car around florida a SLOW DOWN light appeared on the dash. it was a yellow warning light, and the car would not shift up or down. and if you came to a stop it would go into neutral, and wouldnt move. after a few min the light would go off, and everything would be back to normal.

i drove the car to Ferrari fort lauderdale.
They said it needed a tranny service and hit me with a bill of about 1500.00
i just wanted the problem fixed and needed them to keep that car wile i had a shipping company pick it up

    Know.
i researched for a few days shipping companys that could ship the car from Florida to Montana,
i finally came accross a shipping company that gave me a quote for about 2000.00 to ship the car to the boarder in Montana. the said the car would be picked up 24-72 hours.

5 weeks had passed and no truck had picked up my car
the company said that there just was no enclosed carriers available for that transport, but thay said if i would like, they has an open carrier that was in the area , and it could pick my car up and have it here in 7 days.
eager to have my car finally, unexpirienced i made my first mistake and said sure.

the car arived to montana on monday....

truck arrived, the car was parked behind the cab, it was totally bottomed out on the hump of the truck. car was on wooden blocks, rear diffuser was completely broken, side skirts were gouged up to an inch in some placed, and to top it off the drive had put some 1970 pick up truck obove it, and im pretty sure all the oil and tranny fluid that the truck could take had leaked onto the roof and sides of my car. couldnt even see out of the windows....

after getting into a near fight with the driver he told me to call head office and deal with them.. his inspection sheet said all damage were there prior to him putting it on the truck..
even through i had seen the car, and ferrari just had is serviced...

    anywayyyyy
so im driving the car home, stressed out, upset, and totally having a terrible day, i get a warning light on the dash. SLOW DOWN...

WOW! Who did you buy the car from? Did you get a PPI? What shipping company did you use? Do you have a written contract from the shipping company? Many questions to be sorted out

I think it's time to to add a section on the forum for information on auto transport companies. The good and the bad. This topic seems to come up quit often and seems only when it's too late and a new Fcar owner is dealing with the aftermath.

Sorry to hear of your troubles! I would certainly contact a lawyer and the head office of the carrier. The carrier should have insurance and a pre damage check list from when the car was picked up.

    Good luck!

DAMN!!!! It's stories like this that screams RESEARCH,RESEARCH, RESEARCH!!!! From having a PPI done at a reputable indy, getting the service history, thoroughly using the search feature on F-chat, and contacting really reputable vehicle transporters, you must take heed to "caveat emptor" when buying a Ferrari. It is as serious as researching for an open heart surgeon.

I certainly hope you get EVERYTHING resolved at no cost to you in a quick and timely manner. Good luck!

In these modern times, whether you are in an accident or something has immediately gone awry, it's time to whip out the camera phone right on the spot and take as many pictures as you can.

Seems like OP is having issue with transport company while you have issue with car dealer... So, two different problems. Best of luck to both of you.

What a terrible start to Ferrari ownership. I'm thankful that I got lucky with my transport company. The dealer picked them out and I said okay with no research at all. Hope you get all of your issues sorted.

    1. If you have an infrared thermometer check the temperature of each catalytic convertor. If one hotter than the other than I might consider a coil or plug gone bad. Not sure how the 430 computer logic works. Or bad thermocouple.

    2. Before I shipped my 360 I debated open transport and the stories on the 928 forums pushed me to closed transport. Sorry to hear about the experience... It will all work out in the end.

Your nightmare is our nightmare. This is the car I said "expect a major service, it wont be cheap..". I wasn't speculating. That's why the car sold for so cheap. It needs work.... But it's still a nice ride.

You have three separate issues; combined they make a good yet sad story.

    1. The original SLOW DOWN issue not being fixed even after spending $1500. General note; Dont have your car repaired outside of your locality, unless there is no other option. Because if there is an issue, like the problem comes right back, you cant hold them accountable and are basically out the service cost. I learned this the hard way as well.

    2. The car shipper damage. When you have a car shipped they have an extensive inspection form, it is required by their insurance company and their company guidelines. This inspection is done at PICK-UP, thus the Ft Lauderdale dealer should have a copy of the "carbon" of this form. The Ft Lauderdale dealer would have had to sign this form at pick-up. Get a copy of it to prove the damage was not pre-existing. Ask the shipping company for their insurance company and deal with the insurance company directly.

    3. You still have a SLOW DOWN issue. This just needs to be "sorted" by a local dealer (local to you) or by a local independent Ferrari repair shop. Get referrals / references on either. I recommend searching for "SLOW DOWN" on this forum. If you want to try and sort the slow down issue yourself using this forum, please start a thread titled "SLOW DOWN warning light on 2005 F430" after you have read all of the current info you found during your search.

Shipping Recommendation: (I have shipped Ferraris and Porsches a total of 10K miles total with zero damage, all on open carriers)
    A. Make sure the pick up inspection is comprehensive, take 20-30min to complete. Get a copy after the driver signs it! Take pictures before pick up, and when its loaded on the transport. Focus on the "key" areas.
    B. Befriend the driver, let the driver know this car is your pride and joy and you love it. If you are not at the pick-up side, ask the the person sending the car off for you to do the same.
    C. Recommendations for shipping companies are worthless unless its a company that controls the entire process. Most of these companies just take a $100 fee and puts the pickup request on a nationwide bulletin board and have zero control of anything. The driver is the key in these cases. If the shipping company cant tell you precisely when the pickup is, they are not controlling the shipment.

Good luck and welcome to FChat!

Tranny service for $1500. That is more than the full annual service which includes the tranny....and it didn't take care of the problem! WTF.

The shipping story is a horror for sure. Very sorry.

I learned the hard way NOT to buy a used Ferrari unless you have a Major PPI done(means some one who has the know-how and the tools.

My peace of mind with ferrari is to work a deal and buy it through the F-dealer; at least they will give you guidance and better at handling logistics.

Good luck and hope your day is better!!

I see what you say, but it seems that the transport company is the one that he may mostly (or most obviously) have an issue with (unless car was bought with expressed warranty/guarantee). Hopes for the best outcome in all regards!

It will be interesting to see what the dealership copy shows - that is if they still have it.

+1 on this advice. Make sure you get a copy from the dealer of origin. Years ago I had a shipping company make a different bill of lading after they picked the car up to show the damage.....good thing I still had my copy that I signed when they inspected the car in front of me.
