My battery seems to drain a little too fast if the car sits for a while. I was playing around with it today and realized that the windows work without the key in the ignition. Is this normal? I'm trying to figure out if there is a draw on the system that is slowly killing the charge or if it's just a bad battery.

Thats interesting mate, my windows do not work without the key being on. But you have a Spider and I have coupe, I wonder if that is the difference.

If not, then something must be "on" and that is what is draining your battery id say.

Perhaps out an amp meter on the battery to see how amps are being drawn out of it with the key turned off.

That will soon sell you if something is still on/drawing power from the battery. :):)

Just drilled down a little further and I'm thinking that the windows are supposed to operate without the key when the door is open. As soon as you close the car door, they no longer function. If they were drawing on the battery improperly, they would work whether the doors were open, or closed, no? Still pretty strange.

Spiders are supposed to work that way - so you can put the roof up and down without messing with the ignition I assume..

    Mine does anyway..

Do you have an aftermarket alarm?

Perhaps if they had a sticking relay they would keep working/have power to them with the doors open or closed.

Maybe that is the issue at hand here? Do they work with the doors open and closed without the key?

Thanks for clearing that up, I had a sneaking suspsicion after I saw he owned a Spider. :):)

Thanks for confirming that the windows are functioning properly. No aftermarket alarm. I suspect I just need a new battery.

    Thanks for the responses. :)

I still think that it would be a good idea to put an ammeter on it to see what the current draw is after you put in a new battery just to be sure. ;)

Yep, as that way you can confirm for sure if there is a current draw there or not. :):)
