AC/DC Brian Johnson in his Lola T70

He is probably trying to keep up with the likes of Nick Mason, drummer of Pink Floyd.

 

He was on Top Gear, quick in the ****box, said he loved racing.

I've got a photo somewhere of David Gilmour and Nick Mason picking up their F40's from the factory in Italy. I think in around 1989

the drummer Phil Rudd was a car nut ie Bentley turbo,Ford GT40,Daytona,Boxer.

 

and bon Scott had a Falcon XA

I believe Gilmour sold his yonks ago, but Mason still has his in his vast collection.

Ferraris and Pink Floyd are a great mixture, IMO (favourite car-favourite band).

He wasn't. That pic was for the auction of his collection of cars that he apparently never drove.
Rock stars do weird things. Charlie Watts apparently loves Bentleys and he has owned a few. Interestingly enough he has never had a driving license and according to Ronnie Woods he likes sitting in the back seat...... in his driveway. Weird if it's true!

 

Looked quite in his element while he was at it, too.

 

They are both massive petrol heads.

Johnson has a book out called " Rockers and Rollers " ( Certainly R18 ) which details cars he has owned, or significant cars in his life ( family cars etc ).

Rudd is a huge petrol head. Owned a V8 ( NZ ) raceteam under his Mountain Recording Studio business. He bought a GT40 ( in the late 70's, early 80's I think ) in London ( pretty sure ) and drove it up to their concert that night in another city through the pouring rain. He turned up late, they thought he'd crashed. Vaguely remember he'd taken the long route.

The bassist drives a DB9.

 

I believe I recall Elton and Rod Stewart both special ordering and buying one each from the first batch of XJ 220 Jaguars. Elton's was silver grey in colour.

 

As with all the other threads...he is a well known rev head.
Lotus Cortina,Volvo P1800(sorry,had to slip that in)and lots of others,in an interview in a UK Classic car mag about 10 years ago.

 

He lent the GT40 to a mate whom pranged it in the 80s.
When he lived in Melbourne,I often helped him with his cruiser at the St kilda marina

 

He sold them to have his ring re sized.

 

At the time i think he had serious cash flow problems.

 

3.3, 4.1 litre 6 cylinder or 5.7 litre V8???? slush box???

 

He completed a $$$ refurb on his launch last year or the year before. Flys very much under the radar ( when not in court on drugs charges ).

Rudd held a mini car show to fundraise money for Christchurch. Auctioned rides in his F40.

Phil’s vehicles on display this Saturday include a Ferrari F40, Ferrari 599, Lamborghini Murcialago, Lamborghini Gallardo, Rolls Royce Ghost, Can Am race car, 2011 Bentley Mulsanne, Bentley Super Sport, Audi R8 V10, 2011 Aston Martin DBS and a 2010 Mercedes SLS AMG.
