I have been working on my brake caliper project for a long time now. Today, I finally had all of the parts and was ready to get it together. I spent 3 days cleaning and repainting the fender wells to make a nice home for my powder coated calipers. So, I finally get down to assembling the calipers and there is a @%$#$%$ing problem. The seals are wrong. :( When I went to install the pistons into the bores, they were a very tight fit. At first I thought something was binding up. I have rebuilt many calipers before so I new something was not right. Then I checked the dust shields and they are to small in diameter to fit.
Now to get the full picture, I had originally ordered the seals from Girodisc. They showed to be in stock. After not receiving them after a week, I called them up. Martin said he would check into it and get back with me. He called me later to let me know that they were back ordered from Brembo and they did not know this. So he then said he would have some seal kits drop shipped overnight from Stop Tech. I have to say that Martin did put a lot of effort into trying to help me out. The seals arrived yesterday. So now I am sitting here with seals that will not work and no idea as to what to do next. The seals are the correct diameter but appear to be too thick. Is there a chance that these calipers are not Brembo? They have a logo on the back side that looks like Ate or Atc (see pic). Or is this a case of the seals from Stop Tech being wrong? I was really looking forward to getting the car out this weekend for the first run in 18 months but no go. Man am I bummed out. I will let you know what Martin from Girodisc says. If anyone has any ideas please let me know. I will attach a pic that at least gives a preview of what the powder coated calipers look like. I am very happy with them. I think they will look great when everything is done. Thanks

Hi, Brembo and ATE are two completely different companies. Brembo is from Val Brembana in North Italy. ATE is German company, part of the Continental group (famous for Tyres).

Well, now I am wondering why they do not list these two different models of calipers when it comes to seal kits instead of just the one. I guess the next questions will be where to get seal kits for these ATE calipers.

Well, this sucks. I have found that basically nobody carries seal kits for ATE calipers for the 348. AND, I have four brand new Brembo seal kits (with dust seals) sitting here that I cannot return. If anyone would like them, I hope to get $40 per set (per caliper). Anyway, I am sitting here now trying to figure out what to do. Martin at Girodisc gave me a contact for a guy that says he can rebuild them. I hate to pay someone else to do what I can do (if I had the parts). This guy does not sell parts. That may be my only option unless I can come up with something else. His company name is Goldline brakes. Has anyone here used him? He is in Seattle. Thanks, Todd

I used Goldline to rebuild the frozen calipers in my Alfa that had been sitting for 5 years before I bought it. They did a great job; very respected company....

Good Lord, Ate brakes on our cars? I swear they were all Brembo. Now I have to go check mine...
