It seems like Hamilton and McLaren are literally glued together.

Can anyone see a point where either says they've had it with the other? If so, what would it take?

McLaren has been his family since he was a small boy...

I really don't see him going anywhere else, unless something really DRASTIC happens.

I can readily see him seeing out his entire career with the Woking team.

That's what we used to say about MS and Ferrari.

    Excellent point, Peter.

I believe MS's hopeless but valiant fight through the field in his last race for the Scuderia would have been the perfect fairy tale ending to his career...no hope of a win, but pushing and fighting to the end...

Why oh why couldn't he have just stayed retired as a Ferrari legend?

You make an excellent point...it is inconceivable for Hamilton to race for any other team than McLaren, but as you mentioned, it was equally inconceivable that after all that MS had done to be a part of the Ferrari family, that he now races for another...

As long as Macca continues to pat him on the back and kiss his A$$ he'll stick around. I hope he stays at Macca, but his antics are probably wearing on some folks at Woking.

I agree with the other. It would be unlikely but not impossible, especially if McLaren falls on hard times again like they did when Honda departed as their engine supplier. If Senna can leave McLaren for Williams, then it is certainly possible for Hamilton to leave McLaren in the future.

There is a huge laundry list of drivers going to other teams that nobody ever thought would happen:

    Fittipaldi leaving Lotus
    Mansell leaving Lotus
    Piquet leaving Brabham
    Alboreto leaving Ferrari
    Laffitte leaving Ligier
    Senna leaving McLaren

Doubt it. Even though Hamilton constantly criticizes the team whenever things don't go his way, the team can't fire him because he's simply to valuable to lose. In a way I almost feel sorry for them.

    And how likely is that?
Unlike the other driver team relationships Hamilton and Mclaren has been since childhood.
Lewis being the somewhat rash chap that he is may make an illadvised move (off track ;) ) but I'd say it's highly unlikely.

Except in MS's case, it was LdM who retired MS not Michael himself. MS accepted the retirement so that his good friend Massa would have a ride.

Schumacher himself during the press conference when he announced his retirement.

3 drivers into 2 cars won't go. Ferrari had now 3 drivers under contract, and Schumacher decided to stop to give a chance for Massa to have a drive. He said so himself.

I think that he wasn't best pleased with Ferrari's decision of signing a third driver and probably interpreted it as a sign of things to come. He avoided confrontation and ill-feeling by announcing his retirement.

well that's what he SAID, but others who know more about what he's thinking than what he does insist it's because he was too scared to drive against Kimi. lol

a public announcement doesn't mean it was the truth.

I may be mistaken, but my understanding is that Ron Dennis has been bankrolling him all along. Dennis is a sharp cookie. I would think he must "own" Hamilton.

    Not really!
More than Fittipaldi leaving Lotus, the bombshell was Fittipaldi leaving McLaren a few years later for Copersucar; a completely unknown quantity run by brother Wislon. Emmerson scupered his F1 career with this decision.

Mansell leaving Lotus wasn't a surprise: Peter Warr couldn't stand him, and once Chapman died, Mansell's tenure at Lotus came to an end. But what was surprising was Mansell leaving Williams just after clinching the title, for an argument about travelling expenses! Poor Nigel got big-headed and tried to dictate terms to Frank Williams...

Piquet leaving Brabham wasn't s surprise either. Piquet knews that after 2 world championships, Ecclestone wanted to wind down Brabham or sell it. Genius chassis designer Gordon Murray was quiting anyway. Beside, the pay was so poor at Brabham that Piquet could get more in almost any other teams.

Life at Ferrari isn't rosy for Italian drivers, and Alboretto was hardly a 'top gun' there. Not a surprise that he was finaly fired.

Senna had already made moves about leaving in previous years, always signing his contract at the last minute. The honeymoon with Dennis was over by then. When Dennis signed Andretti and Hakkinen, Senna couldn't find another drive and had to grovel to Dennis to get a drive (at the expense of Hakkinen who became tester, and Andretti, who didn't do any testing) for even less money. McLaren had lost the Honda engine as well, so as soon as a berth became vacant at Williams, Senna left never forgiving the humiliation.

I don't recall exactly how Lafitte left Ligier to drive for Williams (alongside Keke Rosberg), but Ligier got him back later.

The surprising moves I saw was Jacques Villeneuve leaving Williams to start BAR- that cost him his career too. Another one was Damon Hill forced out at Williams to go to Arrows after winning his title!!

Maybe this belongs in the hater thread, but that thread sucks because it's far to immature (in the nature it was set up). Can't have 3 threads either, so I'm just putting it here.

With these kind of comments, I hope he'll leave soon. He's just being a cry baby about silly **** at the moment, making very poor comments. He's not winning at the moment but he still wants the attention to be focused on him (he's always seems to have wanted that).

With comments such as ''I felt I was quicker so I just put my car out there'' just reek of immaturity, and has an air above itself as if he has the right to just barge every other mere breathing idiot out of the way (as he demonstrated so beautifully in Monaco).

Perhaps Mclaren should just superglue his mouth shut.

to be honest, whenever things aren't going his way he's just bad mouthing the team. Look at the beginning of the last 3 seasons 'with a car like this we won't win the championship'. These guys have been working their asses of for 6 months straight to get him as good a car as they thought, and before the season even starts he's basically saying their work was for nothing. Last year he lost the championship largely because of his own red mist syndrome; going for gaps that just didn't exist.

His racing is entertaining and it will be a loss to F1 if he does leave (which he won't); but his comments are incredibly annoying. Joke or not, the ''it's because I'm black'' comment (not the first time) is exactly whats wrong with his attitude. No Hamilton; you got penalties because of your actions on track.

I don't think Schumacher was 'scared', but he could see that, after 5 world championships at Ferrari, the support around him was diminishing and that the Scuderia was already thinking about his replacement.
Rather than facing decline, he decided to stop.

I have no idea why he changed his mind to make a come-back at Mercedes. That must be his worst decision.
