Easier to tell on a 575M. The wheel would probably fit, but way too expensive, and still not in the center. Taz Terry Phillips Image Unavailable, Please Login
I got used to the horn button location it pretty quickly. I do agree the 360 horn should be the Italian air horns though!! I'm not an expert on some of the steering wheels on challenge cars or special order types of steering wheels, but as far as the road cars the 360 steering wheel is the best steering wheel on a ferrari since the wooden wheels of the 60's. The size, shape and look is PERFECT. I don't like the larger air bag wheels of the 355/550 compared to the 360, and I don't like the size of the inner part of the 430 wheel nor the switches- the mannitino switch should be on the dash (really, is it that hard to move your hand 3 inches to switch driving styles?) and start/stop buttons are gimmicky to me (EXCEPT on a real halo car like the Enzo or GTO which really is an event just starting the motor). I drove a 458, and that has the worst steering wheel of all due to the amazingly assinine placement of so many buttons on the steering wheel. Worst thing since the BMW idrive.
I had the same problem with my 355. Once I accidently honked it in the paddock on track day at the annual Ferrari Club of America meet. I said "sorry" and the response was "do it again, we love the sound that horn." You just gotta love Ferrari guys. I would switch to a 355 horn but really I never use it. And I agree the 360 steering wheel is fantastic. Feels just right.
I have to be careful what I say because this one will go to court. I got run over by a big pickup truck. Well that is an exageration. His bumper road over my CF hood on the 456M GT. It wasn't a Malibu but it was a Chevy and just as bad. He was looking the other way and moving @ about 4-5 MPH. I saw the back of his head from maye 15'-20'. I had seconds to react. At the two second mark, I believe I had my car stopped, I had been moving about 5MPH, and hit the center of the wheel. On the 456, that is an airbag. At the three second mark, I was yelling "NOOOOOOOO !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!" Windows were closed. Four seconds... he looks at me as he hits me. I'll post pics in a new thread.
Wow, I can't understand what you guys are on about. I have an '03 360 spider, the horn sound is loud and perfect and the controls are located very conveniently on both horozontal arms of the steering wheel, easily reachable by either thumb. [definitely not those bulges on the wheel] and I have never used it accidentally. ?????
This is the problem when you drive differant cars. The horn location in always differant. I was driving my 360 home today and a bmw was in my lane coming at me head on, I when for the center and nothing, What the guy heard when he got back in his lane was some nice words as he went by.. Because i dont drive the car much it is hard to remember where the horn is at. Just like when you drive a new car and try to figure out how to turn the head lights and wipers on. It would just be nice to have stuff in the same place..
Once I practiced using the horns on the 360 i actually became quite fond of the location. I even accidentally was looking for the horn in the same place as on my other cars after a while. It's easy to regress though if you don't drive the car often. In the end it probably would've made the horn in a larger central location on the wheel like most other cars, but I don't mind it's current location. I guess I'm indifferent.
People keep saying the 355 horn sounds better. Does anyone have a sound clip? Is it plug and play to replace the 360's with a 355's?
I can't see some images here. On the one I see, the bumps above where your thumbs would be are circles in, I think, Post 12. On my car, A '99 US F1, the horns are located midway between the airbag and the edge of the wheel at the 9 and 3 O'Clock positioned spokes. After driving the car today, I found them to be decent. The updated horn also sounded better than the previous... AAaauuuuugggaahhh. I had it changed some time ago. Honestly, knowing exactly where your horn is to be found is very hel[pful when time is short. Letting your girl know you are outside is one thing. Trying to alert a bad driver (right now !) may be needed more quickly than that. My urgent immediate desire to have a large penetrating Italian horn resulted in my Hitting an airbag. Shock! Too many cars and no time to say... now where is it?
