308 Distributor and Rotor arm dimensions?

    I'm doing a little machining project to fit different, and affordable, Dist caps and rotor arms to my 81 GTSi. I have the original Marellis. Cost is a factor in how often I replace them, but I also find the screw clamped wires to be a PITA. The booted wires would be a lot easier for servicing, and as I sometimes track my car that would be a big advantage.

    Does any one have, or know where I can find, dimensioned drawings for these parts?

    I can do measurements with calipers, but a drawing would be more accurate.

    I'd like to adapt Saab/Fiat caps with the wires on the side. These are cheap and available, and would look good. Not original, but I don't have a show car. The rotors should match up well also. The stems need to be bored out to fit the cam, but that should be easy to do.

    I measured up the old caps once and will try to find the drawing. I wanted to make an adapter that takes a Volvo 740 cap and rotor. Never got to it yet but maybe some day I will.

    I just put new ignition wires on my newly acquired QV and was fairly astounded at the antique style set-screw contact method used in the distributors; ironic considering it served an electronic ignition. Not to mention how each cap has one almost inaccessible screw making a simple task on other engines a stinker on the 308. The replacement cost for the distributor caps is ridiculous; similar side-wired cap for 70's FIATs are about $30.

    I was thinking (I know , don't) that what would make a better connection netween the HT lead and the dist. cap. Looks to me that pointed brass screw is a really good idea. Does anyone know of a cap with the same design we could modify to fit? Lost

    Screw thread crimp-on end terminal are made (http://www.greenfarmparts.com/PhotoGallery.asp?ProductCode=HE167-1602) but the example is for a lawn tractor! I couldn't find any auto applications of screw-thread dist. connections, performance or otherwise.
