Let me proudly introduce to you Ferrari part #67494500.

This part may be found on page #122 of the Ferrari Challenge Stradale parts manual. It is part #31.

It is a simple black piece of plastic. Molded black plastic. It doesn't move, hop, stop, or jump. This part has no working parts, sub parts, or anything. It is JUST a stupid black piece of plastic.

This part measures about 10 inches by 15 inches. Guess how much this part costs to replace?

Oh..and by the way, I have thought about replacing my calipers with factory painted calipers..Cost? Ferrari will charge you $2,389.21 per front wheel in red.

So tell me (without looking it up)...what do you think this stupid black piece of unremarkable plastic should cost? Remember this is Ferrari!

I don't know but it looks like Italian craftsman from a tradition of centuries of hand workmanship invested a lot of their souls in it.

That is just wrong. It probably doesn't even cost them $20 to make.

Really demotivating for those of us who want CS/430S... :(

No wonder no one is tracking these machines... Read countless times about those who do but stop because the running cost is insane...

If injected mold - approx. 10-15K USD for the mold (5-8 if made in china) and maybe @1.71 for the part. If blow mold - less. Part paid for itself in the original production run... your spare is pure gravy.

Ferrari makes cars for the first buyer, they have no interest in building goodwill in the secondary market. Most of those who buy a new Ferrari from a dealer wont keep it long enough to experience abusive replacement parts cost. That's just the way it is.

What is this part for? Obviously the cost is excessive, but it doesn't seem to be a part which needs replacement often (if at all)

..it's a silly plastic guard that is behind the brake and throttle pedal - serves minimal structural (ties to center console) and some "cosmetic" purpose...that is if you consider cheap plastic cosmetic!

I have a CS and drive it and treat it with kid gloves. But its things like this and other developments at Ferrari such as high production runs that will probably make my CS the last Ferrari I buy.

    That is just plain stupid.

It's approaching 3% the cost of an entire used 360.

I feel your pain. But there will be no shortage of guys here who will say that you somehow don't deserve to own a Ferrari if you don't like the the repair/parts costs - I never did understand that argument.

Perhaps that holds true, but when this piece of useless plastic is priced *BY* Ferrari as almost the EXACT same price as a painted brake caliper to be used with Carbon Ceramic Brakes..then something seriously is F*'d up!

Yes, As one can probably guess, I broke the tab pushing my foot against it getting out one day. Now the rattle is driving me nuts.

That's actually a good point and probably the way to go, given that ridiculous pricing.
Makes Space Shuttle toilet seats look economical. ;)

I think I know a prototype shop in Gilbert that can knock these out for about $100.

In the meantime, be careful where you stomp those size 12s! :D

The capitalist spirit will only take me so far before I start thinking in terms of abusive practices and exploitation.

    I'm there now.

    Bingo.

At least the part is available. Wait till the last 360/CS hits the 10 year mark and Ferrari is no longer obligated to stock parts for it.
