I'm looking at a 308 and noticed the windshield is made by "Sigla" in West Germany. Is this unusual?

    No.
This is one of the biggest automotive glass manufacturers over here.
Originally the producer was Saint Gobain, but now new 308 windshields come from Sigla.

BTW, since 1990 there's no more such thing like ' West Germany ' :)

    Best Regards from Germany

Thanks. I meant to include West Germany in quotes as that is what appeared on the glass. Apologies.

no need to apologize :) I'm in the outer south west and there is a lot of quip about east and west. Even 20 years after the reunion.

Back to the glass. We can be happy, that such a big glass manufacturer bothers with producing such old stuff for cars built in such small numbers.
Therefore there are still enough windshields for our cars out there.
Rear screen availability is a completely different issue.

    Best Regards from Germany

    Martin

of course :) Just as much as there's a North and a South.
But you will know, that West and East had a much more serious importance back in those days.

Tell me more; where exactly were you born ?

Best Regards from Southwest - Germany

    Martin,

If I figure your "outer south west part" of Germany correctly, that maybe not very far from the "outer north east part" of France were I was born and were the family house is still? Saarland? Ist es richtig?

    bonjour,

I'm 6 mls. east of the french and 60 mls. north of the swiss border. 30 mls to Strasbourg (F). Nearest part of France is 'Alsace'.
I cross the Saarland - around 80 mls. away - on my way to the Nurburgring ( Strasbourg - Saarbruecken - Trier - Nurburgring).

    Best Regards

    Martin

    Danke Martin,

You are really in the southwest tip of Germany; I was born 15 kms from Saarlouis, just on the french side of the border, but just...
Ich kann noch ein bisschen Deutsch sprechen, aber man braucht kein Deutsch hier in Paris, und man vergesst...
Its a nice part of Germany you are living in; when visiting the family, I still manage to drive one of my 328 to Baden-Baden about once every two years...you must not be too far from Baden, I guess

I also was born in Germany, in the city of Darmstadt, which is south of Frankfurt.

Interesting...without being intrusive, how is this explained? Your parents were member(s) of U.S military forces in Europe, perhaps?
