My bro-in-law painted most of them. Bhagwan was a family word around
these parts back then. Tacoma, WA had the only RR dealership around, just
to supply his cars. My B-in-Law worked there as a painter.

No idea what became of the cars....

    interesting.

i did some research on him, sounds like he was a version of jim jones, minus the mass suicide, but instead doing a chemical attack in order to win some elections, but he had a nice little collection, although i can't find a list of the models he owned, just judging by the pictures a number of silver spurs and shadows.

He was a NUTBURGER. No, not a violent one... although I do recall he did try to take
over a town in Oregon, and violent suggestions were made - but they were busted before
anything could happen. There were lots of reports back then about abuses in the
compound, but NOTHING like Jim Jones.

Bhagwan was a "family word" around here back then and in the local news all the time.

His followers were accused of committing the first act of domestic bioterrorism.

The Bhagwan was a character. Not really sure how he found so many sheeple.

    Was his name really Bhagwan?

    Bhagwan means God in Hindi.

A lot of the cars were repainted by RRNA as to not flood the market and destroy prices when they became available again.

No, it was not. He was born Chandra Mohan Jain (Hindi: चन्द्र मोहन जैन) (11 December 1931 – 19 January 1990), also known as Acharya Rajneesh from the 1960s onwards, as Bhagwan Shree Rajneesh during the 1970s and 1980s and as Osho from 1989 until his death in 1990.

    Osho (Bhagwan Shree Rajneesh)
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Osho_(Bhagwan_Shree_Rajneesh)

He was a collector of RR´s and wanted one different car for every single day of the year.
    He died at 96 (RR´s).
After he passed away his collection was auctioned off. A few cars had been located at the Las Vegas Imperial Collection abot 10 years ago.

Very interesting - what I heard was that RRNA did not care about them flooding the market because the colors were so weird that practically no legitimate Rolls Royce owner would have wanted them. Guess an "official" repaint wouldn't show on a carfax.

But that was really just urban legend...never have I seen one come up on market advertised as an ex-Baghwan car.

I would have paid extra to have a non-Baghwan car; guess my 1995 is a little past his time (I hope).

I remember the whole Bhagwan thing very well. A year or so after he died, an investor here in Dallas bought most if not all of the Rolls and then himself died of something like leukemia. A curse, perhaps?

A friend of my father's bought 2 of the cars. One for himself and the other for a friend as a retirement gift. He drove it around Omaha until he moved to Colorado. It was a deep purple car with very heavy metallic flakes. Not sure if he still owns it or not.

The Bhagwan was a great car collector, and should be remembered as that. The rest of the story is dicey and filled with crap.
