Would be nice to see this and Im a supporter of Felipe. Interesting if true. http://www.planetf1.com/news/3213/6997237/-McLaren-Ferrari-Want-Button-For-2012-
He's not stupid enough to go to Ferrari with Alonso there.. and people said McLaren was the lion's den. He seems pretty happy at McLaren and earlier in the season said it'd be his last team in F1. But as others have pointed out this week, this F1. F for fickle.
Its leverage for Button to gain more from Mclaren. Being an open #2 at Ferrari wont work for him. If he went it would be because Ferrari are going to allow him to openly compete. I dont see that happening but then again F1 does shock us occasionally.
It seems to me that Button is allowed to race Hamilton at Mclaren and is doing a very good job, why would he want to sacrifice that.
Why pay more for someone who would not be able to beat his team mate? Jenson is a level 2 driver; level 1=fred seb lewis. I think webber will be available as I see ricciardi in the rb seat year, unless str ends up with him for "training" purposes as seb did.
Yes but would he be allowed to see if can beat Alonso. Alonso is faster than you do you understand........................sorry...
If Button did this he would be doing nothing for himself and in-turn would show the world just how good Alonso is.
He was always a level 2 driver-he caught lightening in a bottle in 2009 and ended up in the most dominating car since this year's RB....its all about the car people. Put 2 level 2 drivers in a level 1 car and you'll win champonships....put 2 level 1 drivers in a level 1 car and you have mclaren 1988 (and it was great watching them go at it).
No need to leave McLaren to do that. Just stay there and see if he can beat the guy who already beat Alonso...
I don't see Button thriving in the Scuderia's culture. I see this article as a negotiating tool to get more money out of McLaren.
I don't see any upside in this for Button. At McLaren he has a good working relationship with the team, his teammate, and gets to fight on equal terms... At Ferrari he would be going to a team where he will be EXPECTED to play second fiddle and only be allowed to win when his teammate is unable to... Better BY FAR for him to stay at McLaren. I don't know why this story was floated...I can't see Button floating the story, and I can only see it as a negotiating ploy by Ferrari in talks with other driver(s)... Just IMHO... Frank
Thinking this through some more... At McLaren, Button is an insider Brit in a British team, welcomed and in a warm atmosphere given equal status and may the best man win... To go to Ferrari he would be very much an outsider being subordinate to a Latin driver who has a much greater rapport within the Latin Ferrari team... that's a lot of odds stacked against him, not to mention that Alonso will use every opportunity to pull the strings when he feels it is necessary. Button would ALWAYS be on the back foot and not allowed to fight a square fight like he is at McLaren... Why on earth would he throw away what he has? Makes no sense whatsoever when he sits back and thinks it through... the only leverage would be the money, and after a certain point the money doesn't matter because it doesn't take away the bitter feeling of KNOWING that you will have to be No.2 whether you like it or not (and in fact you are being paid to be a subservient No.2)... May not be PC, but with human nature being what it is, that is probably how it would play out... Frank
So Button got lucky with the car and won a WDC? I guess I don't understand your rating system, if it's all about the car, then why is anyone paying Level 1 money? Jimmy
+1 on all counts. I don't see this happening. I really don't put much weight on articles like this unless the rumors continue for some time. There have been a lot of current drivers linked to Ferrari over the last year or two. It seems like anytime someone has a good race, they are going to Ferrari. It's just something to fill the website pages. Mark
Just posted at Autosport: It goes on to say that LH may be the one looking to move! Cheers, Ian http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/92479
When will Ferrari generate an original thought again? They used to lead the trends in F1, now they follow on everything from blown diffusers to Giancarlo Fisichella. Instead of looking for the next Seb Vettel, they keep chasing guys who are at their zenith with the right team. Why would Button want to go to Ferrari? Right now, McLaren basically has (2) #1 drivers, while he would have to play #2 to Alonso at Ferrari. C'mon Domenicali, start making the trends instead of following them. This is sickening. I truly miss the Brawn/Todt days. Those guys were trendsetters all the way up until the Michelin/Bridgestone tire wars became radical.
Absolutely. Do you think they look for a slower driver? If Button shows the pace to beat Alonso Alonso will find himself #2. I'd love to see Button give FA a kick in the pants.
