Hi. I just got 2001 6spd modena. I know this cam timing belt need to be worked well . I heard it need to be changed every 30000km or 5years but pre owner had owned it just for 1year and he didn`t worked on timing belt. So I have no idea when this timing belt is changed or even not. Is there any way to check on it? Also when I shift gear it feels like very jerkey not predictable. What can I do for this problem?

That's the extent of my Korean.

Anyway, if you cannot find proof the belt has been changed, change it ASAP.

The previous Ferrari recommendation was to change the belt every 5 years. Ferrari has since revised the recommendation to once every 3 years. Changing belts every 4 years or less is probably prudent. Since these cars don't get driven a lot of miles, the miles are immaterial.

With timing belts - everything is fine until one day they break and you have a huge bill.

I should preface this by saying that my car had absolutely no records at all..

If you can take off the carpet behind the seats and access the engine compartment lid, you can peek inside at the engine.

There are black plastic covers on either side of the engine. If you can peek behind the cover on the timing belt look at the smooth part of the belt.

There will be a number on the belt. This number will have a date of manufacture on it. You will know that the timing belt will have been done at least by this date.. not sure if it helps get some bearing on things..

Not so helpful. Parts can be on warehouse shelves after manufacture for many years before being put into use. Even more so on low volume cars.

Thank you for your reply. You might try to say Hello in Korean right? Acctually you can say Ahn nyung ha sae yo. That`s Hi or Hello.
I tried to change belts and tentioners etc but usually shops are calling around $6500 so I want to make it sure that before I pay on them. Anyway anything is better than breaking my engine head or block.

That`s good idea! At least by that date... I hope they used the latest parts on those days.
    Than you for your reply!

What I wrote is the phonetic sounding of what my girlfriend says when she answeers the phone.

I have my used belts in my hands and can not figure out the date from all the numbers on them. Does anyone have some sort of code? I still have the old belts and am curious as to if they were the originals or had been replaced.

Here in the US I have been repeatedly quoted $2,000 or less from the dealer for changing belts. That is the bare service. Price goes up if you wnat tensioners, seals, water pump etc.

Good luck with your new toy. A 360 must be a rare sight in Korea.

Do you know why belts need to be replaced every 3year even mile is still low? Do they lose tension or what. I thought if I have a belt test with belt tension level tool and if result is good it would be OK.

Ferrari used to recommend once evry 5 years.

They now recommend once every 3 years.

Belts go bad from age. Sitting for a long time without driving the car makes it worse. The belt takes a 'set' with the bends in certain spots. Think of coiling a hose and then letting it sit for 2 months - the curls become set in the hose.

If you have no record of the belts being done - do them now. If a belt breaks, you will be looking at a giant repair bill.
