Does anyone have recommendations for a replacement stereo (AM/FM/CD) for a '90 348 TS? The vehicle currently has what appears to be an original Alpine unit, however the controls are scratchy and reception poor. Existing speakers seem OK. I don't need anything fancy (hugely expensive), because as many have mentioned, the exhaust is the best sound-system on a Ferrari. But still... once in a while I need a radio. Ease of installation is a consideration as well. Any suggestions would be appreciated! Charles Atlanta, GA USA
The 348 didn't come with a stereo. Can't see why you need one. I placed a becker traffic pro (GPS unit), something like this: http://www.google.nl/imgres?imgurl=http://codedradio.info/pics/BECKER/be4733.jpg&imgrefurl=http://codedradio.info/show.php%3Fp%3Dpics/BECKER/be4733.jpg%26title%3DBECKER%2520TRAFFIC%2520PRO&usg=__DZ0dKRpDRu2gsRwYYPn2A8wbWh4=&h=185&w=600&sz=24&hl=nl&start=0&zoom=0&tbnid=oRXS-LBfXxOdoM:&tbnh=42&tbnw=135&ei=96wDTtqRCoPJsgaPpb2BDg&prev=/search%3Fq%3Dbecker%2Btraffic%2Bpro%2B4733%26hl%3Dnl%26client%3Dfirefox-a%26hs%3DXVX%26sa%3DX%26rls%3Dorg.mozilla:nlfficial%26biw%3D1440%26bih%3D756%26tbm%3Disch%26prmd%3Divnsfd&itbs=1&iact=rc&dur=281&page=1&ndsp=28&ved=1t:429,r:27,s:0&tx=95&ty=27&biw=1440&bih=756 has a period correct look but isn't.
Replace it with ... nothing! Save the weight. Use and iPod with ear buds if you really have to hear tunes over the glorious Ferrari engine (you Philistine!).
Charles, I bought my 94 348 SS a few weeks ago and I am planning on taking the Power Amp, subwoofer and non-original parts off the car. They work great but I am not into the music thing. The Power Amp is a fairly large unit mounted in the trunk and has a big capacitor. There is a "crossover" unit under the dashboard too. I have the original book on the power amp with wiring diagrams and instructions. The previous owner made a special panel for the passenger side center tunnel that replaces the original panel. Luckily I have the original panel to put back. I would be happy to remove this stuff and sell it to someone who could use it. I don't know the value so I would have to look up some similar equipment and see what used stuff is worth but I usually figure about half or less of new cost. I could take pics tonight and post if anyone is interested. Mike, Reading, PA
