Are my feet too big? Getting comfortable with the 308

Driving shoes are expensive - I vote for new feet!

 

I could dislocate an ankle trying to heel/toe my Alfa Spider.
(I did have the rubber cover pop off the brake pedal a couple of times.)

The one car I just couldn't drive was a Fiat 850 Spider -- I couldn't hit only one pedal at a time.
(It's not just the pedal size -- it's the lack of space around them.)

 

My room mate in collega, half a life ago, used to have a Suzuki Alto that I couldn't drive. In second gear, the shifter would be jammed in my knee-pit (err, is that what it's called- the backside of your knee?)

No such problems in the GT4 - plenty of room for me in that one...

 

Wow, all you guys are big!

I wear size 9, but only 5'7" and 135 lbs!

With that size of shoe, I have no problems with the pedals (in a GT4).

 

Ignore the slippers I'm wearing in these shots (just went down to the garage to take these pics). I normally wear slim outdoor/hiking shoes that are not much bigger than these:

5'-10", 190 lbs., size 9 1/2 D, no problems with any but wide-sole gym shoes. The offset pedal placement has never bothered me.

 

hard to ignore..but they are o.k.
it`s the white socks that keep me thinking

anyway, seems you fit perfectly in your car !

Thanks for taking the photographs. That is really instructive and helped me analyze what is going on.

Now I see the problem. I am trying to keep my left foot perpendicular on the dead pedal. When I do that, the width of my shoe means that it also contacts the clutch pedal. So your picture gives me a solution- I'll try leaving my foot at an angle, then simply pivot to perpendicular when using the clutch.

You picture helps with something else- I didn't realize there is a heater vent down there, which caused me to go out and look and there is one on the passenger side as well. Both were closed on my car.

I did order a pair of new Piloti driving shoes yesterday- nice black leather. I may not need them now. Can I trade them for your slippers? I already have plenty of white socks.

I am with you ...........lot of big guys in small cars.......i would like to see a few of them in a older fiat 500......lol........

 

I am 5-8, 165, size 10 shoe. I find that the Puma Ferrari shoes fit and work wonderfully. Its actually a pretty regular thing that I drive my car with combat boots on too, so that I can drive and prefer with the driving shoes should come as no surprise.....

I had the same problem driving unless I would wear a certain pair of shoes. I put in a set of drilled alum pedals that are narrower than the stock rubber pads. Now I don't have any trouble no matter what shoes I wear. I know the purists don't like these but it sure helped me out with my wide feet. I also like the way they look.

6'1", 180, Size 11...I wear narrow shoes (Ecco or Sketchers). Sneakers are too wide.

Get a pair of narrow shoes and you will be fine. You will learn how to "comfortably" adjust your driving position.

 

My car came with the drilled pedals, so that may be a reason I dont face the same problem.... I hadnt considered that when I made my earlier post.

Nope! In fact, those slippers are so comfortable, I've left the house once with them on!
