Battery model number

It's time to replace my battery, I called around to local battery /auto parts houses and they don't find a battery number for a 85 308, they told me to bring mine in and they will try to match it.

A bit of further investigation I find the battery for a 308 is/was a custom battery that was built for Ferrari.

What battery model number do you use? or what else does it fit?

I plan on buying a basic battery, nothing exotic.

is a 34R close or adaptable, the one I bought several years ago, I had to use a Dremel on it to carve away excess battery case to make it fit.

 

The battery I have in my 85 GTS QV is an Interstate MT34. Fits perfectly without any modifications. It's readily available, and I've noted that others on this forum use the exact battery. Apparently using an Optima is not recommended due to the fact of the heat buildup in the forward compartment because of the close proximity to the radiator. In comparison to other batteries of this size, the Interstate brand is lower in price and it's very robust/trouble free. Good luck, and happy motoring.

 

Bosch S5 007 in my 328. Assume a 308 would be the same (and assuming you can get Bosch batteries in the States).

Just make sure the terminals are the right way around & connect it up right otherwise you'll be frying the diodes in yr alternator!

 

I bought mine at Wal-Mart 8 years ago. I just measured my old one and matched it up size wise. I keep it on a tender over the winter and it is still fine. I have bought high $ batteries and they didn't seem much better than a $60 battery from Wal-Mart. I did get the biggest one that would fit. It needs to go in on an angle and slid into place. Works just fine if not alittle harder to get in and out.

Yep did the same 3 years ago - except at Costco.

I never use a tender, just disconnect the master ground connector and have left the car for up to 7 months that way; connected batt, started instantly.

 

Although handy, you don't really need a number. Since you must dispose of your battery anyway, take it with you to the store. They can match it up and you will avoid the core charge. Put the paperwork in a Glad bag and tape it onto the side of the battery for warranty purposes. Note that Wal-Mart and some others give 3 year no questions asked free replacement. Try to remember when 2 years 10 months rolls around.

The Interstate MT34R is the correct battery(the R means the neg/pos terminals are reversed. If the battery cables are long enough the MT34 will also work.

 

i have an optima gel cel battery in my 328,,,its actually a little smaller than the size the tray calls for,,,that makes it easier it replace it yourself,,,its not so big and bulky,,its an expensive battery,(200.00),,but its the best i have ever bought,,,i have had it 4 years now,,and its working great,,,i also have a battery tender hooked up all the time when the car is parked in the garage., the battery fits nicely in the tray and all the terminals are correct.....my car starts on the first turn of the key without a miss,,,so that would be my recomendation,,,

The Optima is overrated and overpriced. An Interstate battery will give great performance at less than half the price of the Optima.

 

MT-34 in my '85 QV.

Maybe others have different terminals than my car, but I had an Optima with reversed terminals (like an MT-34R) before and it was a pain because of it being reversed.

Is that the correct position, I just pulled min out and it had the terminals pointed forward

It's been 6 years and still strong.

 

Dangerously close to the low point of the cover (if installed) I would think??

I bounced a battery against the hood of a Pontiac once, it went off like a bomb!

Terminals should be to the rear of the car, IMO.

The OEM battery retainer is a base clamp block at the front.....

 

Mine are forward as well. Reversed terminals would let me flip it around so that there is more clearance.

Just got a new batteyr from Autozone that fit. I'll have to post the info when I get home.

 

The previous owner had bought a 58R, so when it came time to replace I bought the same type.
I also noticed my battery cover missing and replaced it. I was always a bit concurned about how close it was to the posts (post toward front of car) after I put the cover on. Guess the previous owner was worried about how close the posts were to the cover and tossed it.

Glad to see there is a better battery for the car! Interstate MT34 costs $107.95
