    hi

the last times I can see that my 355 have very low oil press in the gauge, when engine is very hot 1 bar press already

the last time that I drive it, arrived to my house the light oil is on with engine on in idle

after of this, I think is better no drive more......

    somebody can help me?

oil press valve in the oil tank ?

    oil pump broken ?

    cranshaft bearings broken?

the engine run perfectly with good sound and strong power

the oil have only 1000 kilometers and is in the maximun , is shell, just the manufactured say

    thanks !!!

Low oil pressure at idle is normal. Just make sure it moves up in PSI as the RPM's increase.

Silly question....did you check the oil level?

He actually states the oil level is in the maximum, so I assume the level is correct.

Smart move mate. Dont start or drive till you investigate the problem. You do not want to cause serious engine damage if there is a major problem.

I would tee-in a mechanical oil pressure gauge, start the engine and check engine oil pressure. This is the first step in diagnosing this problem correctly.

Teeing in an external gauge will soon tell you correct engine oil pressure and you will be able to compare the pressure to the gauge inside the car.

You may have a faulty oil pressure sender unit, but you need to diagnose first with another gauge.

If this is too hard for you, have a mechanic perform the task for you.

In this case, the first thing I would do is get an oil pressure gauge on it. It is very simple as the pressure switch is just below the filter. I would also check the filter. On older BMWs I have seen crap filters (like Fram) cause such things.

But first things first, get a good pressure gauge on the engine and see what kind of pressure you actually have at idle.

I would remind lrym to check his oil correctly, where the dipsstick is read IMMEDIATELY after shutting down the engine.

    Drive car for 30 minutes.
Park car in level spot, 2 rags in right hand.
    Release decklid with left hand.
    Exit car.
Run around to the right side of car, simultaneously placing one rag in each hand.
Use rag in left hand to unscrew dipstick.
Wipe dipstick on rag in right hand.
Reinsert dipstick, remove and read oil level.

Sometimes the oil temp can get pretty high after spirited driving. I think organic oils tend to break down and lose viscosity, thus giving low readings at idle. Could that be it?
