Yep. He beat the old Stig (the record holder) by ~0.1 IIRC....... It's a shame Michael wouldn't do it Cheers, Ian

As if Alonso wasn't behaving like a complete and utter bell end. Forcing his teammate on the grass in the pitlane (whilst tires where out for Massa), *****ing that he couldn't pass his 'much slower' teammate and getting the boss man to sort it out for him, giving Petrov the finger because he wouldn't let King Alonso pass (so he still wouldn't win the WDC). Sorry, but if anyone behaved like an impatient toddler it was Alonso. Face it, Vettel is in the top 2 at the moment, alongside Alonso. Fact of the matter is, Vettel uses his brain and behaves like a WDC.
Red Bull has screwed itself in allowing itself to dominate qualifying and to a lesser extent the race itself. Now Bernie has stepped in and slapped them down. Ferrari was the master at sand bagging back in the day; " Michael, we need another two seconds" WTF Two seconds ! Red Bull didnt achieve that but came close. Its all about the distribution of points "wealth". Next year expect a little more discretion.
Actually I was dead serious. He never allowed a competitive team mate to race against him, and yet by all accounts he would have destroyed them anyway. So there is no way he was going to set a lap time in the resonably priced car and get beaten, especially by RB!! Pete
And if Ferrari/Alonzo was dominating like RB is you would be OK with that? Like in the years Ferrari and MS dominated? By your logic they must have been breaking some sort of rule there, too. Troll.
I like the memories & your theory. Unfortunately, not quite what happened (IMO); - He was indeed asked on a few occasions "for 2 seconds a lap! for the next few laps please Michael." But, it was during races when Ross wanted a perfectly timed stop..... - In qualy, they're going flat out - I don't believe anyone sandbags in qualy - Then or now. [Go further back & it happened, but not in this era.] "Discretion" isn't in their lexicon is my point I guess..... Cheers, Ian
Actually I remember MS purposely spinning his Ferrari at Silverstone during qualifying to get some sort of advantage. In the end you only need to get pole, so I don't think they always go as fast as they can. Pete
