So it seems as though Ferrari are afraid of being one upped by the new Stratos .. Quote my email this morning: The Limited Run Over 40 prospective buyers from Europe and abroad have notified us of their interest in acquiring the New Stratos. These additional vehicles could be produced using a Ferrari F 360 or F 430 as a basis, in a similar production process to that used with our one-off vehicle. Pininfarina, however, has advised us that they will only carry out construction of a limited run with the express permission of Ferrari. Despite Ferrari president Luca di Montezemolos excellent assessment of the New Stratos after his test drive at Fiorano, Ferrari does not consent to construction of the planned limited run by either Pininfarina or any other Ferrari-dependent suppliers. Given this situation, creation of additional vehicles seems possible only via companies that are not dependent on Ferrari. Appropriate contacts are being made at this time. www.new-stratos.com
Should use the company that Jim Glickenhaus used to build his P 4/5C. It was headed by one of the higher ups at Pininfarina after he left Pininfarina. It's a striking car I'd like to see developed into more than just a rebody of a Ferrari in a limited run!
The 360 and F430 are out of production. It doesn't make sense for Ferrari to restart for a few hundred cars over the next 3 years. So, a few lucky owners will get one if they are made.
Ferrari is not building this car, Pininfarina is the builder using doner Ferrari bits.. A new better recycled Ferrari is what you get... I hate to say this on a Ferrari forum but leave the Ferrari bits out and you have a Stratos that would sell and could be driven with worry of operating cost..... I drove the crap out of my old Stratos knowing at the time it wouldn't cost me both arms and a leg to maintain.
All of this could have been averted if the project creator had gone to Bertone for the design instead of Pininfarina. You know, the studio that designed the original...
I know they are having some financial difficulties, but I thought they were still designing cars? They came to Geneva this year with a new Jaguar design after all (granted, that Jaguar cancelled that idea)
What these guys needed was a small car manufacturer. That's why they went to Pinnafarina. I'm pretty sure Bertone no longer builds any cars. Technically, they should go back to Fiat and have Alfa build it as a Lancia. That would make the most sense. But, using the 360 and F430 as a parts base is a dead end if you want to sell new cars. It's no surprise to me that Ferrari is only going to give them a small amount of NOS.
Love the original, this new iteration is UGLY IMO. Back to the drawing board with Lancia would be best.

I was surprised that the Stratos ran the slowest lap on Top Gear. The car seemed like it wanted to spin on every corner. Even the Stig couldn't control it! Fun to watch
you're right car is no match to the original one. It smells new 2000 design front, side and back. The only repro so far that has been a sucess is the ford GT. This new Strat leaves me wanting a japanese GTR.
I wouldn't call it ugly. All it's missing are pop-up headlights -- then the design would be cohesive and perfect.
Top Gear ran a half ass kit car on track, not the real deal.... Seriously do you think they could drive a Stratos in it's intended environment at speed..
Honetly, in 8 years of being into the automotive industry, this ranks among one of the biggest disappointments short of the Porsche Cayenne. The 'New Stratos' was easily one of the best looking cars of the last decade in my opinion, and according to reviews was near perfect on the track. I actually don't want to see someone else pick up the project. What will they do? What chassis will it use? Powerplant? Whatever they do now, the end result will most defenity not be as good as the original 430 Scuderia based car, and that's a huge shame. I really am getting sick and tired of Ferrari and the way they seeminly do buisness. Luca needs to realize that 90% of the people interested in the new Stratos probably have one or two Ferrari's in the garage anyway..
It's funny how the new Stratos concept started out pure with a goal to produce a true rally based street racer but became just a rebodied 430 at twice the price of a 430. The reason I bought my Lotus Elise in the first place was because it was almost an exact copy to what a Stratos felt like on road. The original Stratos spects are closest to the Exige Cup 260 in track/wheelbase power/weight and most importantly weight... When I bought my Lotus I told the salesman it had potential and reminded me of my old Stratos, he looked at me and said "what's a Stratos" ? After I bought the car I gave him a few books on rally and Stratos and told him a real car guy might come in looking for a real Stratos replacement one day so he had better read up.. So I turned my Lotus into what I thought would be a perfect Stratos replacement with real power.. Here is one of the new Stratos concept cars, I think this is what it should have been. You are correct. I like the spoiler on the old car, it should be on the new one too. IMO they tend to smooth everything out too much on these new cars. They need to learn that It's ok to have a few bits and pieces that aren't 100% aerodynamic.
I still haven't seen a real Stratos... although, I know of one pristine one about 120 miles away. I think the writing was on the wall with this from the get-go. Too bad, as I thought it looked fantastic.
Calling the new Stratos "just a rebodied 430" is a bit like calling P 4/5 "just a rebodied Enzo" and P 4/5 C "just a rebodied 430 Scuderia with F430 GT2 running gear". A lot of engineering went in both cars. They're not just rebodies.
this man speaks truth... this could not be a better alignment of resources/suppliers for a stratos 2.0. equally tired of the tyrannical nature corporate f is taking on. Hell, Enzo himself green lit the original and monte & company can't... WTF. They should do the project anyway and add the price of a donor to the final bill, I'm sure there will still be a line even at that price. If I had the money I would in a heartbeat. Stratos 2.0 is a better looking than anything coming out of Maranello right now. No purple koolaid for me thank you.
