Exhaust fitting help

    I just got a Stebro and it's about 1/2-1" off on the front header tube. How much can I flex this to get it to fit? I know stainless doesn't have that much give, but there is no other way I'll be able to get it installed...

    not sure if this helps or not, but you need to loosen up all the fittings from the header ends back the loose fit everything up, get the exhaust in the right position, and tighen-up all the connections bit by bit. That is the only way my tubi fit up well.

    I have both a stainless and standard system & the difference in terms of the way they fit is not inconsiderable to swap from one to the other. I need to adjust all 4 links and the height of the hangars.

    Like Geno mentioned above there is a LOT of play in these systems if you have all the fittings back to the headers loose. Just make sure to fit all the flanges up hand tight first before tightening anything up. Then check to see it's gonna end up where you want it with the "diaper" and tighten away. I seem to remember one or two joints that I had to get creative with extensions and universals to get tight, but it can be done.

    Did you have any issues getting everything from Stebro? I really like mine, but they are a pain to deal with and some people have major fitment issues. 1/2" to 1" should be easy to make up though!

    John. At first when Dan stopped replying to my emails, after I sent money, I got freaked out by the reputation so I stopped payment. Then a week later he sends me a tracking number and says it should be there next week. He took care of some oddities with the.shipping company. Checked when I got OT and said "now that you have OT can you resend payment?".I thought OT was.pretty coolof him to shop it knowing I had. stopped payment . also he.mentioned the van was polished ad it was in the pictures, bit when it arrived it was a flat stainless not polished. he offered up rift away to knock off a.couple hundred. I think Dans been good.to.work with.from my experience....

    Yeah, that's the typical stuff with them it seems. The only real issue I had was mine came with no inserts for the tips. Turns out I like it better without them but if I take a long trip will probably put them back in. It took quite awhile for them to fix that. I was very happy with the quality and fitment of mine though!! I ended up getting mine ceramic coated just to keep it looking clean.

    Also I don't know what you are doing for fasteners, but I took Peter's ( http://ferrarichat.com/forum/member.php?u=265 ) suggestion and used the 288 bolts, springs, nuts and washers. Take a look here.... http://ferrarichat.com/forum/showthread.php?t=185168&highlight=288+exhaust

    Hey John,
    Intersting stuff. I was just going to use my old hardware. I guess he sends all the exhausts without the inserts, 'cos mine didn't come with them either. He said he would send them, but I'm actually not that worried about them. I agree on the quality. It's half the weight of the euro Ansa I took off.... (also, sorry about the choppy misspelled previous post- I'm still not that good with typing on a smart phone!)

    Once I get it on and finish my body work, we'll have to go for a drive!

    I could never keep the bolts in the final triflanges without locking hex nuts.

    The spring bolts absolutely help, with that issue.

    Thanks for all your advice guys. I got it on (pretty easily) after loosening everything.
    Unfortunately, my battery was completely dead, so I didn't get a chance to hear it yet.

    Got the car started this morning and DAMN!!!! It sounds SO much better. RPM seems to rev and drop a bit faster, but not sure. I know Stebro has hit or miss customer service, but the product is really nice.

    That was my reaction when I installed a Stebro. I noticed that when you rev it and just as the RPM drops back to idle, the frequency drops WAY down to a nice low rumble. Standing behind the car at idle, you can feel the low rumble in your chest.

    If you'd like to try the Stebro tip inserts, I have a few that I'm not using.

    I am starting to see chunks of my Stebro insides getting caught trying to exit one of the exhaust tips. Anyone else dealt with this.

    I don't think there is that much inside a Stebro to be honest. Do you still have cats on your car? If so I'd be more inclined to think it was part of one of them. I had that with my old exhaust and cats. When I took it apart there was probably a pound or two of chunks inside the exhaust.

    How long have you had the Stebro? I've had mine installed for only about 3 years but have been working on it a lot of the last two or so.

    Keep us posted if you figure it out!!

    Don't have cats on right now, and the Stebro was installed in '99. Which would still be under warranty if my name was Tim, and the original purchaser. As for the debris, they appear to be a round metal ring. If any more fall out I will post some pictures.

    Take it off ASAP! Vacuum, blow or whatever to clear it out. If you start to close the throttle at high rpm and suck any of that into an exhaust valve its game over for your engine. There was an owner with a BB512 here with a thread about his engine damage from something loose in a muffler.

    Hi Eric! Good to hear your stebro went on OK and you're liking it. I have a stebro on my 3.2 mondi cab - and similar to what others have said, the product seems very well made but the customer service/time to deliver is not so good.

    It's great that you like the sound. I've found that my stebro sounds even better after a few thousand miles than when it was first installed. Perhaps it's just a matter of some carbon building up here and there, but the thing sounds less "tinny" now than when it first went on - sounds great. Try the I-90 tunnels when you get a chance, and some clear road....
