Good day All, Just my usual documenting these cars as they come up... 1981 512BB Chassis 36961 Mileage: 23,534 KM Color: Red Exterior / Cream w/red inserts interior With Books and Tools no less! Current Bid: $80100 USD (not met reserve) This car looks very nice and the only visual issue I can see is the typical dash pull at the windscreen... and ofcourse the red-painted side ducts (was this a factory option?) Do we know this VIN? Is it on the Fchat Master Boxer List?? Maybe we should start updating our recap with "last seen at" entires just to get an idea of where they are all located, if not known Fchatters cars. Lots of them popping up in the market. Green shoots!!! Economic recovery!!!! Desperation/liquidation!!!!
Chassis 36961 gets my heart pumping and blood flowing. I like the carbs and the look of the carbed cars from the front better. The reflectors on the bumper of the BBis tend to distract. Plus no unsightly side markers and a really attractive interior. I would paint out the NACA ducts. It's probably a much better proposition than the yellow car. Or one could hope. I would drive in fearlessly like I did my Daytona. No fear like may be associated with that 3600 mile BBi. I wouldn't be after a preservation trophy. I like to take my pleasure driving the open roads. This is a worthy candidate for doing just that. I do like the 3600mi BBi without the boxer trim and cool story. But a $75K premium? I don't have that kind a cake right now.
This car needs $10-12k spent on it before you turn the key. Engine out, all new lines, etc... Would like to hear when the last major service was completed and if Black Horse Garage did any work since it left F40 MotorSports a few weeks ago.
This one was one of our own's: bboxer, sold sometime prior to/during 2004 http://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/showthread.php?t=98208&highlight=36961 Appears at Post #20, this could be his chance to buy it back.
Good day BigTex, I sorted out my dash when I first got my car. It took me roughly 2 or so hours to remove the dash and about the same to re-install. The upholstery shop charged me $350 to recover the dash (front piece only) ...with some very, very nice leather that was a close match to the original. Consequently, the dash "pulling" issue on this or any Boxer is not a big ticket item. Cheers, Sam
Yes, I bought it new in May 1981 in Italy and had it flown to LA. EPA/DOT done at Sun International in Redondo Beach. Kept it for almost 21 years and finally could not get the darn CARB sticker without too much hassle and $. Poor thing went to Florida via my FoOC dealer and finally found a home in CT with a gentleman who seems to have taken good care for it. I would love to buy it back but a conversation with the only conversion shop in CA discouraged me. The carbed cars need a lot of (ugly) work for the CARB certification.
In defense of my mention of fastradio, IIRC the windshield itself in #19271 was also cracked, so maybe it was the number $$ for the whole repair. I think the windshield surround mouldings alone are $1K, if you &*^ them up!! I sure wish I was driving that car now.....
bboxer, I'd think it would be impossible, or close to it, to get a non-certified carbed car BAR certified for use in California now. I think you'd be better off just buying my carbed car, BAR stickered, registered in CA since new, and has never failed a smog test! John
Sold...i spoke with Jeff today and the car is heading to CH. i'm in the market on a customer's behalf, so any leads would be appreciated... must be a Red/Tan BBi , with or without Boxer paint, with or without recent 'engine out', preferably an unmolested Euro, but no US side markers if it is a Federalized car. all other relevant details can be discussed. thanks, brett, 705-435-1990, [email protected]
