+1. I think November will be better. Going to be pretty balsy on Tavo & Co. and the politicans part to get a later date though. Someone is going to throw up a fus about not meeting the statutory requirements for timing of money released from the state....

There are a bunch of people who have made reservations. If they change the date now, that wouldn't be cool to those who have already made plans. It would throw a monkey wrench in the hotel bookings, and leave a bunch of empty rooms in June for the hotels. Imagine if they do change the date, the rush of people who might not have a reservation now, but get one in the confusion. Kind of like a long line at the grocery store, and then they open a new line...next customer please. Everybody bumrushes the newly opened line, if you know what I mean.

LOL, rooms are empty in June anyway, do you think F1 cares about what Hotels think ?

By the way, this is my first post here, hello all.

They better. This is the F1 American return. PR is every thing in America. F1 doesn't sell itself much here, if you know what I mean.

    Book when:

Its been approved on the calendar
    Tickets are for sale
There is a working approved facility

No rush, lots left to do. With the date being openly discussed here as not set, why would anyone book a hotel. Some folks will get bumped when the FIA and Teams start booking and at much higher prices. They will know before you do.

    Ever heard of Donington Park???

I find it interesting that everyone assumes the date will be later (if changed),... Bernie does what is in Bernie's interest... The weather in Austin is terrific in March / April... If Bernie wanted to have some fun, he could easily offer COTA a choice of june or an earlier date.

I also find it interesting that many are now talking of beach blankets and temporary grandstands... That is not what F1 has come to expect of new F1 facilities...

Seems even those most believing of this effort now believe the facility will not be complete for 2012.

Do other tracks not have 'natural seating' or whatever they call it. Besides, whats wrong with temporary grandstands?

Who knows, if the first one is a success, and they try and get Travis county to put up the $4MM instead of going out of pocket, they can use that to pay for the temp grand stands, and use the $25MM from the state to pay FOM.

Not saying they'd do it, but the law would allow the $$ to be used for that.....

For a 'dead' project, a lot sure is happening.....:)

my favorite natural seating is the rocher at monaco. with the right preparations natural seating is usually the one of the best seats in the house. the hill on the back straight at indy was a nice spot too.

I don't think anyone thinks its a dead project, just delayed. It would take a natural disaster to kill the project with all the backing it has now.

As for beach blankets, I wonder if they have chiggers in Europe. Anyone who doesn't know what a chigger is and sits in the grass in the Texas summer will find out...the hard way. A chigger is a lil bug sittin in the grass waiting for someone in shorts to sit down. For some reason they always go straight for the nads....that's worth the price of a bench seat alone!

For all intents and purposes, all of the seating at Road Atlanta and Barber Motorsports Park, two great viewing tracks, is "natural", and I believe that is also true of Lime Rock Park and Road America. If you have enough elevation change, you don't need a lot of grandstands.

Redneck Formula 1? Texas style? I wonder how much "Texas" COTA plans to incorporate into the final design, or will they go for the traditional "caliber" to accommodate for the expectations of F1 fans? World class facility does not mean sitting in the grass eatin cheetos with bud lite. That's nascar.

Perhaps the folks in Texas don't know about insecticides. First of all, you don't have to sit down to get a chigger bite, just walk by where they are and they'll hitch a ride. Once I started spreading insecticide on my yard each spring and following up once each during the late spring and early summer I started not getting bites, and I have never gotten one in a public park, because they also kill them. The track can, and better, do the same. If they can get this thing moved to Oct or Nov, chiggers shouldn't be a problem, unless they have a later season in Texas. But the point is well taken, if people that don't know what chiggers are come in and get bitten and don't know what to do about it, they probably won't come back.

Chiggars. LOL. I am so aggrivated every time I open this thread. But I cant stand the unsubstantiated poo poo. Chiggars exist in Europe. Insecticides are used in Texas. And sitting in grass is a choice someone makes.

What concerns me is that El Chupacabra might aquire a taste for the blood of wealthy European tourists.

I just call it as I see it. Hopefully COTA looks at this thread from time to time and all this speculation helps them to plan for all the tiny details - the fine tuned end user experience. You shouldn't be aggrivated, opening this thread is a choice LOL.

If the rumors that I mentioned a few days ago on this thread are true, the event will take place either one or two weeks before Brazil. A key to this possibly will be the Indian GP, which I believe also is still listed as provisional.

If the Indian GP does not take place, and Abu Dhabi is then moved back to October 21 or 28, then the USGP could be either November 11 or 18th. Brazil being November 25.

If the Indian GP would in fact take place, it could be moved to be one weekend after Japan to October 21st, which from a cost perspective, makes sense for the teams. Along with Abu Dhabi being November 4 instead of November 11, November 18th would be good for the USGP Austin.

Then there is the personal relationship between Tavo and Bernie......

    Anyway, just hoping.

There's gonna be a BBQ pit! Also, they have a wildlife exemption on part of the land.....guess they're going to let Bevo roam the grounds during the race?

One of the contractors is a member here. He hasn't posted in this thread in a long, long time though.....

I think there is a lot of genuine interest. Just a little skepticism. Hell, even Simon^2 (who started this thread as "USGP" canceled) a long time ago, went out of his way to catch a little of the live feed of the City Council meeting......I think they'll start coming a long....

The word is (someone check this) that on the way to Brazil, F1 does a layover in Dallas. I would assume a refuel or something. If true, it would be common sense that a Brazil/ Austin pairing would work just fine.

A layover in Dallas from Abu Dhabi en route to Sao Paulo makes no sense. The increased fuel costs vs stopping on the east coast makes it prohibitively expensive, but then again it is F1.
