Sunset at the 405 is still going to be out of control even when they are done with the project. This problem isnt being addressed at all. They really need to close or eliminate that entrance ramp for northbound traffic as it and the surrounding streets are being abused by people coming up barrington ave to enter the 405 at the most northern point.
Well, at least I don't have to get out of bed early to drive up to Super Car Sunday... Where's the money for this project coming from, I thought we were broke
Drove the 101 past it last night around 10:30 on our way back home from downtown LA and it felt like everyone was staying off the road. We drove past the 405 entrance and exit with no slow down. In fact, it was faster because we didn't have to merge with the 405 traffic from the south. I suspect we simply got lucky and the weekend is going to be far worse....or...enough people are staying off the road to make it livable. I'm always fascinated by the human element in these kind of things so it will be interesting to watch. BTW, Jon thanks for sharing the Hitler video. I think I've watched it 5-6 times now and still laugh just as much as the first time.
One of the "shovel ready" projects BHO financed with stimulus money. I'm sill trying to understand how this, when completed, with actually improve traffic flow and congestion as the pundints claim.
Sigalert thismorning. We have a long time before we see the new lanes open up to help congestion Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Rode my bike to the Sunset Blv. overpass today at noon. The north view was empty, except for occasional motorcycle cops and service vehicles. The South traffic had one car every 20 seconds. In a construction area by Waterford I actully walked up the embankment and stood on the freeway shoulder, waving to the few cars going by. Sepulveda was empty. This was wierd to me since I thought Sepulveda would be the main bypass street to pick up the traffic.
KFI reported the 405 should re-open at 3pm today, too bad, they should close it down more often, traffic everywhere was light yesterday Demolition of the Mulholland Bridge is apparently complete. Crews are now in the clean up phase and then will inspect the bridge and 405 freeway for any damage. Demolition was expected to finish at 2 A.M. Monday morning, so crews are ahead of schedule and the 405 may re-open earlier than expected. Read more: http://www.kfiam640.com/pages/Survive405.html?article=8841254#ixzz1SNaoxpGa
Now that it is done, I have to say I wish they didn't do it. It seems like we are wasting a lot of money to make easier for people to live far away from their employment and services. If someone wants to live in Burbank and Commute to Santa Monica, that is fine, but why does everyone have to pay for it? There are plenty un developed lots in los angeles that need to be re-developed, then a local and efficient transportation grid could be built. I'd rather spend 1 billion to build trains, trams, etc from downtown La to Santa Monica than adding another lane to a freeway. They should drop a few train tracks on each side of the 405 freeway and make it even more difficult to commute via auto. Frankly, I'm tired of the 45 minute drive from brentwood to westwood via sunset almost every night, strictly due to commuters cutting up to the sunset onramp. Eastbound Santa Monica is equally as insane during rush hours. We need a major shift in transportion expenditures and look into the future.
