Friends, I decided to replace the bearings on my original steel ac pulley. I got two new SKF Italian bearings and a new bolt. I forgot to put the small spacer between the bearings so I pressed them out and back in and felt a small rough spot when turning. I ordered another set and pressed them in and have the same problem. The old bolt was pressed in tight but the new one slides in with hand pressure. I took the snap ring out cleaned everything and played with it for a couple of hours and I can only think that I somehow messed up the pulley. The thing is massive so I am not sure how I could do this, but I do have a large press which is not perfectly square and possibly could have pressed one in a little crooked. When the bearings are pressed in and not touching via the spacer they roll smooth as butter. When they are pressed together there is a definite rough tick in one area. When pressed on the old bolt they are fine only when in the pulley I am having a problem. Since the bolt, inner races, spacer, washer and nut lock everything together I think I have a problem. Has anyone done this recently??? Obviously these bearing very sturdy and probably overkill for this application but I do not want to put this back less than perfect or create some harmonic vibration so I am looking for a new pulley. Supposedly they are NLA and superseded by an aluminum one on the 348 but I am looking for an original one. I am approaching the 1 year mark now, on the home stretch!! Thanks for all your help Rob If any one has one laying around drop me a line!
i have several OEM Ferrari a/c compressors and air pumps. i will look and reply later today with pics if i have one you can use. I think T Rutlands has prices for these listed on thier website, but i would gladly take less than whatever they want for one to help a fellow Fchatter out.
When I did my Sanden conversion I eliminated that pulley assemble. The bracket I used allows you to adjust belt tension by moving the compressor. I would think you could get the bearings and bolt at some outsource shops.
Robert i found the compressor, let me know if you would like pics or any numbers off of it, to be sure you can use it. Michael
Thanks to all I may have a line on a new or used one. I am talking about the tensioner pulley assembly, which is not part of the compressor. I have not messed that part up yet!!
Friends, Just to let everyone know, I finally figured out what was wrong. After I torqued down the bolt it was perfect.... Lessons learned the hard way!!!!! BTW the way to torque this is because the bolt head is so thin, mount it in a vise with aluminum jaws and torque the nylock. I even tweaked the new bolt as you can see, by doing the opposite.......
