I am in the process of "hunting" for my dream car, which right now is the 430 Scud spyder 16M. I was wondering though, being that they only made 500 of the 16M, does it appreciate over time (given the car is kept "clean"), or something along the lines as a "future" collectible?

What are your thoughts of the 430 scud VS 430 scud 16M, both spyders?

Side note, I love forums like these, friendly and helpful members, great commodity among enthusiasts.

Thanks for any ideas/thoughts, as it will def. help me in my consideration process.

It's really hard to tell whether or not the cars will go up. Almost all cars should not be viewed as investments. Because many would then be considered horrible investors ;). The 16M is a little bit different. Low production numbers help a lot. If the scud follows the CS's path, it won't appreciate. Maybe in time, but no one knows when that may be.

Buy the car for yourself and drive it. Don't worry about mileage. If your looking at 200k + cars you most likely can take a little depreciation hit. If you want a solid investment, buy an F40. Other than that, almost all ferraris conform to the same depreciation curve as other automobiles. The only advantage is that at a certain point it stops.

I agree with gmast he speaks the truth. I was thinking the same thing and pulled the trigger and bought a 16m after driving it for 2 months I can tell you at this point I do not care anymore about resale value/depreciation you can't put a ROI on life.

By the car enjoy it and be thankful you live a life that allows you to buy a car like that.

It's only money/funny they are printing it every day :)

A Challenge Stradale was a $205,000 car in 2004. Seven years later, they sell for, what, $135,000 for a good car? Granted, retaining 65% of MSRP seven years later is fantastic. But, don't kid yourself, Stradales are going to keep depreciating, probably down to 45% of MSRP before they bottom out. You can expect a Scuderia to do the same.

That said, a Scuderia is a much better track car than a Stradale, even if the Stradale looks better. :)

You guys are fantastic. I really do appreciate the values of your input.

With that said, I think it's pretty much settled and I already have my heart set on the 16M and I know for a fact that I will be loving life sitting in a beautiful machine with the wind on my head =)

    Thank you guys!!!

This is the best way to "Appreciate" the 16M or any convertible.

I daily drive my 360 Spider and I don't regret a single morning. Honestly, I have pretty much quit thinking about replacing my old DD. With that backdrop all I can say it get the car and enjoy.

I bought my 430 as a reward to myself for putting my nuts on the line. I wrote off the purchase price as a total loss in my mind. Do the same.

I agree with Nut Masher that if you expect no return from the resources invested you will be less likely to be let down. Cars are not financial investments 99.999% of the time, they are transportation, toys, or both in this case.

I personally try not to use the words nut and masher in the same sentence.

I agree completely. I have a heavily modified 3 series which I used to have a as DD (having motor and body work done on it now) and considered it my toy as well as DD

I was just asking about appreciation/depreciation as I don't really know much about the Ferrari world. The 16M would be my first Ferrari purchase but can only imagine what it is like to own and drive one daily but do know that it would be more than a dream come true =). Regardless, both my modified 3 series and the 16M will become both DD's, I can just see the 16M becoming more of a DD than the 3 =)

    Cheers,
    Perry

Can you see that if you have two DDs, they are no longer DDs, maybe EODD (Every Other Day Driver)

So you are are jumping straight out of a BMW 3 series (albiet modified) right to the top shelf level 16M? Wow, must be nice to have that purchasing power. Best of luck.

Don't be surprised when after you get that dream car, the 16M, it sits in the garage more than you thought. The car is SO special, you'll want to drive it on special occasions.

If the 16M makes your heart pound, you lay awake at night thinking about it and already have a box of special Q-Tips set aside for cleaning the special 16M badge then pull the trigger. Given the build numbers it will take a hit and level off quicker than "basic" 430s or Scuderia's but most likely will not really hit a true appreciation upswing for some time. Even when/if it does it will be offset by maintenance costs so as many others have posted I would not make the decision with any expectations of financial gain and make the decision simply based on your passion for the car and being in the rather fortunate position (most likely due to hard work and good decision-making on your part) to be able to purchase any Ferrari - much less something as special as a 16M.

If it all goes to hell remember you can sleep in your Ferrari but you can't drive your house!

Post pics when you get it - Cheers!

After reading this, I have the biggest "Pudding" face. My brother, who works right next to me said "You alright, you look like you just watched some s3x vid, hahahaha" I simply replied "Well, it's something like that"

That is what I though initially but to be honest, I doubt that I will be able to contain my enthusiasm or that itch to drive a beauty. I'm a gear-head by nature so I doubt it'll go away either =)

I'm just like most people here, I've made my share of bad decisions but learned from them. Getting the Ferrari that makes my heart go "boom" is definitely a treat to myself for hard work and sacrifices that I've done =) I'm definitely taking the advice of everyone on here, not rushing into buying right away rather looking for the "one" that pops out at me.

I greatly appreciate everyone's input and thoughts. Great community!!
