This is a great discussion. I am looking right now for a 6 speed 612 and having a difficult time finding one. The F1 were an $8K option and most were ordered with them. I really just like shifting and think the F1 are going to be a very costly problem down the line. What are your thoughts on the color combo of that Rubino HGTC---looks amazing to me.
We have an 05 612 6 speed available at Ferrari of New England. Pics below, low mileage (6245). Just a great, no stories car. Priced perfectly at $120k! Nice 612 but again to the comment above. When you have 06 HGTC's selling for $120K-$130K why buy an 05 6 speed for only 10K less. The spread is much larger on 6 speed. The HGTC was $35K as an option and add the F1 you are looking at $43K in options and a year newer.. The 05 car is a real looker and love the 6 speed...
The options are valued at a fraction of their original cost on the secondary market but certainly add to the sale-ability. IIRC the HGTC package for MY06 was under 30K.
Looking at 612 manuals myself now. I have a 05 Maserati GT Coupe with Manual 6 spd. I also hate the F1. It is just not for me as I like rowing the gears. Plus the maserati version was slow and too much mat. in the long run. I love my Maser but I want an F Car since it is already my last name. Since I have a GT now I didn't have a clue to what I want now. I can't even get a new car with a manual so it will be used. 550 and 575 were at the top of my list but they are just to close in performance to what I have and older. It has to be a V-12 and it has to be a stick. Friend bought a 612 and he loves it. Saw a 599 at a show last week and I made up my mind. 612 or 599 with manual. Prices are dropping and now it is just finding the right car. Ferrari will produce a manual 458 in the future as the autos leave gears heads longing for the chrome gate. They will want the sales eventually.
I'd love to find a manual 612, preferably in Bianco Avus with some sort of brown or tan interior. I think this search may take a while. Not a lot of units out there. In my search, I came across the following black / tan early model for sale in Britain: http://www.londonlhdcentre.com/lhd-car-detail.aspx?Make=Ferrari&Model=612-SCAGLIETTI-6-speed-manual-LHD There's also a blue / bordeaux model for sale at Miller Motorcars: http://www.dupontregistry.com/autos/Search/DRauSearchDetails.aspx?itemid=1034417 One in Ontario, Canada: http://www.autoloansolutions.ca/used/Ferrari/2005-Ferrari-612+Scaglietti-dcc597bd4046381201b0dec3c2d163ce.htm
Just noticed I failed to answer Carbon's question 2 years ago. The owners manuals for the 612 shows engine type as F133F and the 08 and later OTOs, and probably Sessantas, as type F133H. The original 612 engine was developed way before the Superamerica's, hence the type F133G for the SA engine. The earliest owners manuals for the 612 were written in 2003. The 575M (F133E), SA, and 612 engines all had identical displacement at 5748 cc and many parts are interchangeable. For anybody new to the site, you can download all those OMs, and many more, at this website. Taz Terry Phillips http://www.ferraridatabase.com/The_Downloads/Downloads.htm
According to Edmunds, the 6-speed manual WAS still available on 2008 models, but phased out for 2009. Is this true? Has anyone seen a 2008 U.S. manual example? I have not come across one, so I am wondering if I need to limit my search to 2005-2007. I would love to get a manual OTO with some of the other 2008 improvements (e.g. hard drive audio storage, Bluetooth, iPod), if it's possible.
Edmunds is generally not a completely reliable source of information. In 2008, when the OTO came out, and probably for the 2007 Sessantas as well, Ferrari adapted the 599 dual plate clutch and transmission case to the 612 driveline. As far as I know, and all data points in that direction, none of the updated clutch/transmission case 612s were ever fitted with a manual shifter. Would have been a waste of money for Ferrari, just like the manual shifter 599s and Californias, neither of which sold in sufficient numbers to justify the expense of developing the option. There are no manual OTOs or Sessantas. I tried to order a manual OTO, and was told "no." I actually tried to order a manual pre-OTO and was told no as well, but that was because they were already changing production over. Originally, in late 2007, I was told I could order a manual car, but once the production slot became available it was too late. I don't know when the last manual 612 was built, but it would have been in 2007. What that means as far as "model year" I don't know, since Ferrari doesn't really do the "model year" concept.
Several 6 speed 612s are currently available. In addition to the black/black, there's a red/tan and a blue pozzi/bordeaux that I've seen offered at autotrader.com .
Allan, I believe the last two may have been the ones I listed? I am hoping to find a white one, although I may eventually have to be less choosy.
